I've thought for a while now that given the choice the BBC would rather rename itself UKBC, because 'British' is now a dirty word.

I guess "BBC Northern Ireland" is something of an oxymoron, given that Great Britain doesn't include NI.

They are however part of the British Isles - it's like the whole British Lions crap - they're called the British Lions because they're from the British Isles, not from Great Britain. The Irish rugby team are called Ireland. Not because they're from the country of Eire / Republic of Ireland, but because they're from the ISLAND of Ireland.

Weird.

But the nationality of the people of Northern Ireland is, for the most part, British.

Excellent stuff!

Interesting that some of the BBC2 symbols of the earlier years were covered, but nothing of the channel from mid-80s onward. I'd have expected BBC2 in '91 to at least get a mention! There is, however, a generous amount of BBC1 Balloon footage, which is great to see.

Aside from the idents, another area that some folks might also find interesting is the 'Test Cards and Ceefax' section...

Yes I thought the '2' era from 1991 would have featured more as it is one of the most popular idents of all time. And I had no idea just about everything on Test Card F was there for a reason, such as the cross, the colour of the toy's outfit, the little girl without make up. Amazing.

I found that really fascinating to see how everything was put together and why it was made as it was. I never understood the full meaning of all the bits of the test cards which now I did and I'd also forgotten how the spinning globe of the early 1970s was made.

As other posters have said, I was expecting a little bit more of a mention of BBC Two idents, particularly what is regarded the best era of its presentation in the 1990s and to a lesser extent how they created the CGI yellow Twos in the 2000s.

There's one thing I've noticed looking back on some of my ident tapes. BBC1 used to have lots of image manipulation on the trailers and links. I think it was called Quantel and in the 90's they used something called Cleo/Clio? You would see it used a lot on shows like Top Of The Pops, Going Live, Live & Kicking and on CBBC during the links. But now it's nowhere to be seen. What happened to it?

Does anyone know why BBC1 have completely messed up their schedule this afternoon? It all centres around shifting the programme about Vera Brittain to an earlier slot. Although the change was advertised this morning, the schedule from about 3pm until 1910 this evening is very different from the listings.

Ironically, one of the items in POV was about the messy scheduling of Little Dorrit. Then Jeremy Vine ended by mentioning the Vera Brittain programme that follows SOP - despite the programme having already aired. The announcer made no correction either.

If altering the time a programme goes out causes so much chaos, which today it clearly has, what the hell is the point?

I know this isn't a specific BBC1 question, but has anyone seen those couple of new iPlayer adverts they've made? They're great. Could anyone cap them please? Cool

One has the song Hallelujah as the soundtrack and the other is Shot Me Down.
