I don't understand this digital delay theory. It's only a few seconds isn't it? At least, that's what it is on my TV.

I have a digital clock which automatically gets the time, and the BBC News 24 countdown matches it, so at 0 seconds its exactly the hour, if they can do one for BBC News 24 why cant they do it for the main news

And it'll be accurate no matter whether it's on analogue or digital. They still have the pips on Radio 4 and I can listen to it delayed through my TV or on the radio itself.

And what happens at New Year? They show Big Ben!!

People don't say well we won't be showing the countdown to the New Year on Sky because we're delayed by a few seconds compared to terrestrial broadcasters.

Exactly. A few seconds. Are they worried people will phone up Ofcom, complaining because the clock is wrong?

Just before Medium I think they showed a shoter version of Mission Control.

And it would still appear to the viewer to be right, they wouldnt know any different the clock would still hit the hour before the news starts

I could be incredibly pedantic and say they actually show the Clock Tower, but I'll let you off.

Either way the digital delay excuse for ditching clocks is very poor.

What I think people should be complaining about is ITV News using Big Ben's bongs at half past the hour. Since when did Big Ben ring at half past the hour? When News at Ten used to be delayed, there were no bongs. And considering the poor timing of commercial breaks nowadays...

'And now on ITV1, the Nightly News at 10:30. Please do not adjust your clock.'

BONG!

Okay so theyb show the Clock Tower and we hear Big Ben! Very Happy

As you say the digital delay excuse is a load of rubbish! And ITV's timings are ridiculous. They're so desperate to get ratings that they put on extra commercials so their programmes end when other channels' programmes start. Very petty!

I think you'll find that ITV News starts on time, and the ITV Lunchtime News actually starts early

Your argument is a few years out of date

That's the only thing that does start on time but as for the other shows they're still doing their little tricks. Coronation Street starting a bit after 8pm on Mondays, BGT finishing at 9.25pm last Saturday instead of 9.15pm are a couple of examples.

Saving Planet Earth on BBC One just started at 6:58pm.
