Good to here that Richard Hammond has been chosen as the host of Wipeout - or as the BBC are rebranding it, Total Wipeout.

I've been watching a bit of the US version and it's a great format, but it's success all rests with the hosts - and Hammond seems a wise choice - but let's hope any other hosts are up to his standard.

For those that don't know, it's kind of like an It's a Knockout style game show for the 21st century, beginning with 24 contestants and eliminating them down until there is one winner. That's kind of irrelevant though - it's the hosts who carry the show, so getting them right is key.

Strange though the BBC plan to air this in the New Year - it's very much a summer show.

Talking of getting the hosts right - or wrong in this case - Hole in the Wall. I've seen a clip today and Dale Winton just completely ruins it.

I read an interview with the producer somewhere (can't remember where) and he said Dale wasn't exactly his first choice but the BBC insisted he do it.

Hole In The Wall looks like one of those bad but good shows. It'll probably tire very quickly though.

Interesting, and shame on the BBC if true. Though I'm not quite sure who would be the perfect host for it, I'm certain it's not a show that should be hosted by one of the regulars from BBC's Camp Saturday staff.

It was done a few months ago on Australian commercial TV..possibly one of the worst shows I've seen this year, and there have been some pretty awful ones (this is the country that produces Neighbours and Home and Away remember).

Just awful.

EDIT: Don't take my word for it..

Nice Saturday night trailer, with sparkly endboards and the neon music in the background...

Years ago this type of thing would have fitted the Saturday morning slot (excuse the pun) perfectly. Chuck in Peter Simon and some gunge etc.

Years ago we were laughing at this kind of stuff from Japan and gloating such trash would never be served as "entertaiment" on British TV.

I see the E4 man is back as the voice-over for Hole in the Wall. He seems to appear on every show at the moment.

Sounds more like the Robot Wars commentator.

Edit: Jonathan Pearce, that him.

That's Jonathan Pearce. I'd know his football commentator voice anywhere having listened to him for years on Capital before he joined the Beeb.
