They really do seem to be churning out these idents at great speed - we aren't even two years in yet.

New ident releases are usually 'spaced apart' evenly, so that even 3 years after a rebrand there are still additions available. If this new ident is the absolute last of the set, that's comparatively way too early, so I honestly doubt it is true.

Do you think we'll get more idents then?

That's true. Tumbler was added almost 3 years after the Dancing idents were introduced. Can only hope more are added.

The fact that we've seen various recently posted clips of Capes during its development, and with different music, suggests that it's been made recently, and isn't just part of the original batch which has been held in reserve until now.

So it appears they're still making new ones, and I don't see any reason for them to stop now. I think people are probably putting too much significance in the original claim from almost two years ago that there would be 16. I've no doubt they're allowed to change their mind.

I may of course be completely wrong though.

That is recent. So do you know if they will stop making new idents?

Well I asked this question a while back and a lot of "insiders" said that despite saying there will be 16 doesn't mean there are 16 ready; they create them as they go along. Same happened with the dancers - I'm sure Maasai was filmed during "big cat week" (on whilst the dancers where on-screen) but was part of the originally planned 16.

I think it was indeed filmed during 'Big Cat Diaries'; but I have to question whether it was part of the original set - the press release for the R&M idents made specific mention of capturing UK locations - even additions after the original batch such as the Skaters, Tai Chi and Tumbler followed this.

So, I always found it odd how they let just one ident (Maasai) break from what I'm sure was otherwise an all-UK selection. Was it really deliberate? Maybe it was - but I'm not sure.

Oh, I wasn't saying that they new exactly they were going to have a Maasai ident - I just meant that they had a plan to make 16 idents. They may have just come up with the ideas as they went along.

This is a bit pointless anyway. Seen as the idents have only been out for just under two years and we're (nearly) at 16 idents, I doubt they'll stop. They may have changed their minds (hopefully). Plus, if they are withdrawing/resting three idents, that means we'll be back to 13 surely?!

But the very first new addition didn't have any vistas of the UK at all it was Music Video and Bollywood was on an Indian themed set, so they were bending the rules even then.

They are not so much rules - its just what was said in the press releases.

I remember Lorraine Heggessey pretty much quoting that press release when she went on Breakfast to talk about the new idents.
