The Insider is certianly spot on, With Surfers being dropped not forever may I add and not suprisingly Peguins will take a break for a while as well.
With regards to the capes ident I didnt expect that, music wise. I thought the piano, (earlier post) would have played a part somewhere, not overall convinced
So one of the drafts was right after all and they just changed the music. Not sure about this one yet, it's okay but doesn't really grab me unlike the first time I saw Space and Forest.

The sceptic in me is saying not to believe this relatively inactive member (33 posts in 5 years) of the forum. I really do doubt they'd rest idents so soon.
But The Insider has been right before with for example when Neon and Lawnmowers would be debuting. So they must have some knowledge of the inner workings of the Beeb.
Like many of the more recent additions I'm not sure on this one either - the signature music and red colouring which connected the original idents has virtually gone and the circle alone isn't a strong enough emblem to link them all together on their own IMO.
But judging it on it's own merits it's not a bad ident - though it does look rather cheap at the end.

Well as I've said before the circle isn't really a logo like the BBC '2' or Channel Four's '4' but it was better than the rhythm & movement idents which gave us no logo at all. I will say that Helicopter did nothing for me when I first saw it and it grew on me, I think this one will do the same.
Personally the BBC1 idents that work for me are the adventurous or surreal ones like Lawn, Penguins, Space, Forest and Hippos. I'm looking forward to the 'dog' of an ident we're due next month.
Also does anybody hear the harpsichord and think the theme to Rentaghost is going to kick in at any minute? Just me then.
Having seen it last night at 9, I thought Capes was quite a pleasing ident. Nothing outstanding, but a nice addition to the set.
My biggest gripe is all that busy detail with the raindrops in the first shot led to some horrible digital blocking on DSat. Don't know if it was any better on Freeview.
