More details required. Did anyone get a video of the breakdown? What did the interactive feed show while the picture was missing? Do any radio stations (TalkSport?) use the BBC pictures instead of going to the game? If so, what did they do when the picture went? Did other stations around europe have the same problem? What did BBC HD do? Did BBC One broadcast subtitles based on what was being said on 5 Live?

Not sure why, but while the apology was up it switched to 14:9 for a few seconds, with the sound very slightly quieter, and a couple of white dots at the extreme left of the picture about level with the first line of the text.

May have been regional I guess.

I think you may be right. I've also seen this a few times before on BBC One Yorks, usually though, it's been just before a regional opt. Someone in Leeds must have been fiddling about.

All being discussed with captures and links to youtube in the Euro 2008 thread. Essentially, a electrical storm in Vienna knocked out the power to the International Broadcast Centre. With a few exceptions, most broadcasters lost their pictures. BBC One put Radio 5 commentary over their breakdown slide and when the international UEFA feed returned, Radio5 commentary continued over the 'clean' pictures for a time. The BBC facilities in Vienna were apparently unavailable for a long time (apart from it providing the studio for the pundits analysis stuff, the facilities there add BBC Sport captions, some extra replays etc to the international feed).

As I understand it, BBC HD went to upscaled UEFA SD pictures, I don't know if they too managed to put Radio5 commenrary out.

The breakdowns have also been left in on the iPlayer version of the match.

The BBC News has been moved to BBC2 this evening to continue coverage of the Andy Murray game. However they interupted the game without warning and went straight to BBC London News. When the weather forecast came on they went straight back to the tennis match. Looks like they are having fun at the Beeb tonight.

You mean BBC London opted on the wrong channel, I wonder what they showed on BBC2 at the same time?

We in the East got London News on both BBC One and Two. Total balls-up. The schedule f up has meant there's been a 20 minute gap in the coverage meaning most have missed the start of the Nadal match.

As has been discussed frequently on the forum, only the Nations can opt on digital BBC 2. No English Region is capable of opting on Freeview BBC 2 and the DSAT BBC2 is the 'England; (or Network) stream.

Some English Regions (Oxford, Jersey, Cambridge, possibly Hull too) cannot opt on BBC 2 at all (analogue included).

Sounds like a total balls up to me...

BBC One could do far worse than return to a globe theme, but use each junction to showcase the latest cutting-edge manifestations of globular objects.

Such as these...
