I've said before that if you look at Silk and Paint from that initial batch of 2 idents they have a timeless quality and still look fresh today. These current BBC1 idents are wiping the floor with BBC2 which used to be renowned for its idents.

I found out that the original set of BBC One circle idents won Best On-Air Branding and Hippo (one of my faves) picked up a gold as well. And on an unrelated note it was good to see Dubai from Channel 4 getting a gold as well. The newer BBC One idents like Space and Forest are up there with some of Channel 4's best if you ask me.

I agree that BBC 1's idents are great compared to their previous batch and what other channels are currently hitting us with. They would be even better if the pres department starting announcing like Ch. 4 do and allowing the idents to play out till they form up the circle, this would look much more professional than it has for the past couple of years.

The shortened versions aren't much better either as the tune doesn't seem to fit into the ident and I've noticed on Forest that the vid stops before the music.

Yes that's my only complaint about the idents too. They look good but the announcements done over them either drown out the music or they only just get time to do the form up before cutting to a programme. The continuity sometimes looks amateur compared to Channel 4.

A little variation I've not seen before, I assume done to highlight the new times after the football overrunning.

Also noticed the Bonekickers trailer on NI ends with the "ONE" being shoved over but then the usual red swirl endboard appearing, which sort of defeats the object. It's a shame the trail designers can't be bothered to supply Nations with a local copy on the rare occasions the end sequence is a little different.

The BBC One ident provokes discussion.

Either that or its interesting as it relates to the episode...like the space ident or something.

EDIT: Should have read a few pages back! Ah well...at least the Dr Who ident issue has been bumped up for the appropriate day!

Now I was wondering about this. Somebody metioned that a few pages back and I can't help thinking why they would have a comment about an ident. It could be nothing but it might be an idea to set the recorder to be on the safe side.

Are there any BBC staffers around that can give us a clue?

I wish they wouldn't use the neon ident during the summer evenings.
It don't create the same atmosphere when it's light outside.

Yes, I do agree (despite bad grammar) with your post. There should be a different version for summer or just use usual idents.

BBC 1 Wales used Space into Doctor Who. Missed the announcement into The Ruby In The Smoke - not sure what they used then.

Slightly off-topic - just as the announcer started speaking over Kites into last night's delayed Ten O'Clock News, Wales opted back into Network early, leaving us with several seconds of the clouds slide.
