There's also another one that does that as well, can't think of the name but to give you a idea. He doesn't seem to have any personality in his announcements, just sounds really formal.

I think Offer is the worst and most noticeable, didn't realise there was another one that did it. I love the BBC1 idents but the problem seems to be that the 'hook' is at the end. With the balloon the music was at the start, after a few seconds you heard the distinctive tune and then the announcers would talk after that. With the circle idents either the announcers should start talking after the form up or finsih the announcement before the form up.

Peter Offer certainly is the most noticeable for doing this - serious and with the music incredibly low. I think Delroy Hayes and Phil Vowels sometimes turn the music down quite a lot as well.

As you say the problem is that the musical hook is at the form up which is mid-way through the ident. At least with the likes of the Balloon and also the Dancers, the music was at the beginning and then announcers could talk after this which was only three/four seconds in (except for Stephanie Sabine who once started talking before the shouting of Haka had finished).

I think there should be short versions that start on the form-up as most of the times the hook is being faded out for the announcement and even sometimes not having chance to appear on screen. The other thing would be to have an announcement at the start of the ident, ending at the hook and then letting the ident continue afterwards, somewhat like Channel 4.

You're absolutely right but I don't remember Phil or Delroy being so loud that I couldn't hear the music. They should edit some idents so that the form up is shorter and the actual bit where the ident is revealed should be longer so that when the announcers talk the film doesn't stop suddenly. I also wish that they'd redo the surfer ident and have the circular wave be the end of the ident as the circle disappears. They should have it on a loop like they do with Footballers at the end.

Anybody else just see that on BBC One before the News? Part of the "BBC Identity" played (with no music), followed by a slide with voiceover apology to Jonathan Garrett over the embarrassment he suffered due to similarities in a storyline used in Waking The Dead a few weeks back Laughing Never seen anything like that before.

Classic. It reminds me of that time Channel 4 had to apologise for Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights' character Keith Lard not being based on a real Fireman in the Bolton area!

It was quite funny that, and the apology even appears on the DVDs. Here's the story behind it.

It also appears everytime they show the Bingo Hall episode of That Peter Kay Thing on DVD or C4, although when it was on C4 the announcer had to read the apology. I do feel sorry for the real Mr Laird.

It's stupid though. Maybe one apology initially is fair enough, but to do it for every airing after is just re-enforcing the link they're complaining about in the first place.
