I think it does suit and has a nice Saturday night feel, but if it'd been introduced for all week long, it would have helped the whole set stay fresh.

I hate seeing one ident all night long. It was like everytime they introduced a new rhythm ident, you'd get it for the whole evening. Neon has an undeniable Saturday night feel but not every show on Saturday suits Neon. Doctor Who should be introduced by Mission Contrtol and there have been some heavy episodes of Casualty and yet there's happy/clappy Neon introducing it. It gets boring seeing the same ident over and over again.

The balloon had probably the most set of idents ever, but the people working in Network presumably had their favourites and kept using the same ones all the time. I think that when you introduce a new ident package you should have around 20-30 at the start so that you have a different one for each junction.

What annoys me about the ident, apart from what you have already mentioned is often the announcer starts talking before the BBC One jingle kicks in, so all you hear is the build upto the tune. It lacks impact because of this.

Indeed. Everytime I've seen Neon recently the musical hook has been faded down to almost mute

There's this male continuity announcer that everytime he's on you never hear the hook to any of the idents. Why is he so loud?

That annoys me as well, at least Duncan balances ident volume to a decent level. Others turn it down to the point of 0.

That hook is the identifier to the viewer at home so they know what channel the TV is on, even if they are looking away from the television. Why in God's name would you have the volume so low you can't hear the bloody thing?

Maybe a complaint to the BBC would help?

I must admit we don't really have that problem in Scotland, just the usual, talking before the formation which is annoying enough. The thing that annoys me about that the most is that they do it on regional programmes as well, so it's not only due to limited time to talk. Evil or Very Mad

Noticed a BBC Switch ECP on BBC1 tonight (EE credits)

The URL on that screen breaches Beeb guidelines - http://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/credits/#websiteguidance

The only web site address which may appear is bbc.co.uk/sitename (where "sitename” is the relevant programme or category site)

Only a top level directory should be promoted in connection with BBC public service web sites. Therefore there MUST only be one slash after the hostname (bbc.co.uk) e.g. bbc.co.uk/homes/diy should not be published.

I'm asking a lot of questions this week, but how easy would it have been to have just created a bbc.co.uk/kylexy? Saying that, in this instance is it being used to promote BBC Switch a brand thats not that strong at the moment?

Saying that it's becoming better, and actually getting quite a few home ground programmes. Though today they had this weird invision link at last weekends one big weekend, they should try and do live links, not sure on the guy today, as it was a very weird link trying to be funny, but not really.
The programming good, still not sure on the basic logo, and like the idea of revealed.

Anyway, as I digress, the problem using the ECPs as they do is that whatever programme is being advertised takes over the ECP. It's fair enough using BBC Switch, but the problem then arises that the rest of the ECP looks as though its advertising whats on BBC Switch tonight, if you get my logic behind this.

BBC Switch drives me up the wall. The 'street' programming aimed at the 'yooof' seems to be inner city gangsters talking about the harms of sites such as MySpace, or cheesy stereotypical Neighbours rip off. To top it all of they get the most annoying DJ off the radio to present along side some curly haired 'celebrity' aka Nick Grimshaw who as far as I know is just some random 20 something who has come from E4 Music. The brand fills no other purpose apart from a quota from the bods outlining they need to provide programming for this age group. I'm grateful for one thing though and thats for whoever came up for the logo decided that the graffiti tag style writing isn't cool, nor is it representative of the teenagers of Britain.[/rant]

Phew. Laughing

As an idea I do like BBC Switch, and the way that it can be implemented across TV, Radio & Online is something that the BBC can do and have done quite well.

The branding isn't the strongest, and its reliance on the not so talented but somehow deemed cool for some reason or another is not something that they and others seem to be doing well at the moment.

Maybe its just me getting older.

Peter Offer is dreadful for doing this. He's the one who unlike most of the current announcing team sounds like one of the old annoucer brigade from the seventies and eighties - no creativity in delivery - very old hat and formal.

Yes that's the one. When he talks they turn the sound levels nearly all the way down. It's extremely annoying. I do like his diction but you can't hear the music when he's doing the announcements. Is his voice louder than everybody else's or something?

There's also another one that does that as well, can't think of the name but to give you a idea. He doesn't seem to have any personality in his announcements, just sounds really formal.
