Never really understood Xmas. Surely it should be +mas if anything as X represents St Andrew and + is Christ.

Well, Christ allegedly died on the X . Rolling Eyes But I get you with the + but if you look at an 'X' it is also vocally said as ''cross.''

I agree with him. I prefer to use Christmas in my vocabularly because Xmas sounds slightly American and I strongly hate americanisations. Same goes for the word kids, I'd be better off calling them children.

Carry on.

And there's me thinking that the UK was being very American nowadays and calling it Seasonal Holiday's!!!

BTW as the UK is effectively a Christian country, but is open to other religions, why is the word Christmas being less and less used and yet Diwali and Eid is becoming more and more popular. Is Christmas now a very minority event??? (i.e. more of a minority than either Diwali or Eid)

Alright calm down! I am not a particular fan of Xmas but is does cut down on writing the whole do da. Of course for the more formal occasions you just got to use Christmas...

OK now I've just made myself out to be lazy.

I issue a formal appology to all those offended by the term Xmas and I shall avoid using this term in future... and to all a good night.

oh, think of the pragmatics of email and forum writing, I'm not trying to impress hence I don't use full length writing, and I do use a bit of elision here and there, just like writing a text message a lot of people write phonetically to save time and because it fills up all the space, it's a bit like that but obviously this isn't a mobile phone.

I apologise to anybody who does not like my way of typing and accept full responsibility for the uncaring nature of my English tongue, I shall now finish the hole I have dug for myself and lie in it. That is all, thank you.
