Instead of such nonsense as e.g. an entire street/neighbourhood creating a single massive snowball, or spogs bouncing around an it-could-only-possibly-be-the-inside-of-a-TV-studio environment on Christmas puddling-style spacehoppers, etc etc etc...
...we have something actually resembling what most of us mere mortals might be doing with out time during the festive season (i.e. not very different from how our lives are for the rest of the year, just with the addition of e.g. Christmas jumpers or whatever).
Where is the ambition in that though. It's Christmas - people want a bit of magic on their screen, not something they can film themselves. Even ITV's repeated efforts have something a bit more about them - these seem to be a BBC runner given a camera for a day and asked to go and film anything remotely circular.
This is it.. they don't even try to be a bit "sophisticated" as the ITV ones
Verdict - simple but ultimately bland compared to previous efforts, even Sprout Boy. The novelty's going to run out heavily on this one thanks to its generic nature.
I'm expecting these idents to be the last Christmas present package using circles - unless the BBC continues to use the current set, throughout next year.
Surely it's the high concept ones rather than generic ones for which the novelty quickly runs out? Sprout Boy was far too repetitive, this year's won't suffer in the same way.
Seems good to me so far. Some nice stylistic choices with transitions and animations - something they often aren't too great at.
Animation in itself is excellent by the way - but if they're able to put in multiple idents that would keep it fresh - which is possibly going to happen.
I did!, but not in HD, Shame since it was 30 sec playout, but didn't want to take the risk of the sound, Its seems my box does NOT like coming out of certain films DW or SCD ( I think its to do with the surround sound playout)

I agree with you. It's certainly completely unlike anything they've given us before. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the other idents will look like.

Same here. Really curious to see how the idents are.
