Controversial opinion but I quite liked the red curtain idents and people only took against them here IMO because they'd convinced themselves it would lift to reveal something when there was absolutely no indication that it would.

This years idents aren't just bland but they're just poorly made and filmed. They might be OK for the Food Network or something but they don't cut it for BBC1.

Three idents featuring people, all of which zoom in on the actions of white adult males... Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that, and these three actors are clearly not the focus of the idents in a major way, but this nonetheless strikes me as a surprising decision given the amount of scrutiny of diversity on the BBC.

I think it's a pity the one year which could really have done with a fantastical, escapist, the world is quite a lovely place after all because look at the imagination and unnecessary ambition that went into this piece received a "slice of life" style instead (but the sort of unreal life that only exists in adverts).

But, hey, it's an aesthetic and a change up from the norm. I don't think it's a particularly accomplished or well executed ident set but I certainly respect and understand the opinion of those who have taken to them more fondly.

Edit: I also think the "for the moments we share" angle would have worked far better as a BBC-wide thing, scrapping the naff "oneness" and allowing the other channels to do their own takes on it.

Agree Jonny - given the year we've had Sprout Boy would probably have been a lot more welcome this year.

Why does this not come as a surprise?

But any ident containing celebrities would be brave the way this year has kept the obit writers busy!

Well I think they are discriminating against Santa and Snowmen. It's an outrage. Rolling Eyes

I quite like the bauble one. It's just the soundtrack that's lacking.

I think it was the first ident being the #banterladz one that put me off initially.

I actually quite like the soundtrack. And, dare I say it on here, these idents are slowly growing on me. They're quite unique. If these had appeared on for example ITV2, no-one would have batted an eyelid.

People doing things does not an ident make. It's lazy. This year's idents look like they could come from any channel or indeed any advert.

Someone should make that clear to ITV, whose usual idents are nothing more than 'people doing things'.

Correct. It didn't work for "five" or UK Gold back in 2002 and it still doesn't work now.
