Radio Times has a report about the BBC unveiling its trailers and idents, which suggests that there are multiple idents, maybe we have to wait until tomorrow to see some more.
And there we have it. The "Party Hat" ident just seen on the 23:35 junction. It indeed looks as though we're getting only three idents this year. Surely they could have filmed a few more, just for a bit of variety?
I don't think the BBC One idents are awful, I don't get the hate. I just hope there's more than just three. Not enough is seen of the superb gold end board.
Ok, now it's time to eat my words!! A new ident just aired at the 23:55 junction. A family sitting round the dinner table with a Christmas pudding being lit- I quite like it. I just didn't expect them to hold back a different one until as late in the day as this!
And of course, it's the first time BBC One have used a Christmas pudding in one of their idents since 1977!

Yes I liked it too. Launching the idents tonight was nice, but the presentation outside the whole ident package is really un festive. I've only seen the end board once and they haven't customised any existing trails to garner the Christmas look. It just looks and feels disjointed and kind of "that'll do".

At least there's continuity in that these Christmas idents continues the trend of recent years of finding any piece of footage and slapping a circle + the BBC One logo over the top of it...
Without a doubt, this is the worst set of Christmas idents BBC One have ever had. They lack everything that makes Christmas idents and indeed the holiday 'special' for so many people - they're dull, unimaginative, uninspiring and lack creativity. Frankly, they're just plain disappointing compared to other great Christmas idents in the 'circle era' like snowball and the 2014 forest ones. It's like the presentation team ran out of ideas for Christmas idents which fit in with the circle theme and simply told someone to spend a day filming Christmas-related scenes which they can pass off as Christmas idents along with a soundtrack which better suits the regular set of idents. Even something centering around the gold endboards being used to promote Christmas programming would have probably worked better.
To go through each one:
- Jumper: I get the idea behind the ident being about Ruldoph's red nose lighting up. However, the execution of it was badly thought out - a man pointing to his chest saying "boom" to make the light glow doesn't seem right at all.
- Party Hat: A video revolving around a shot of a guy falling to sleep wearing a red crown doesn't deserve to be called an ident when absolutely no creatively was put into that at all.
- Bauble: It's a suitable ident to lead into the news/serious programs but it's been done better in 2004 and by Northern Ireland in 2012.
- Christmas Pudding: Probably the most 'Christmassy' out of the set so far with the family sitting around the table. However, there's nothing about the centerpiece of the ident being the pudding which makes you think it's a Christmas ident - it's just a plain pudding waiting to be lit.
Hopefully BBC One gets a major re-brand next year because this years Christmas idents demonstrate that they've run out of ideas on how to properly incorporate the circle theme. Heck, if a viewer contest was held to design this years ident - the winner would probably have had a far more imaginative and creative ident than what we're going to be seeing for the next month...

I think you are completely wrong. Best BBC One Christmas idents in years. Warm, subtle, and pleasant to look at. Quite slick too in the consistency of the zoom, much better than the usual bodge job they do.
I'm not sure what people want. Feature a celebrity and people hate it, have it purely graphical and people hate it, have animated celebrities and people hate it, have normal people in it and yes people hate it.
So you don't like this years Christmas idents? You've always got next years to look forward to hating.
Having only seen the bald head and the news ident, I don't see what the problem is they embody the spirit of watching BBC One at Christmas, they're flexible, christmassy and well shot.
