Remove one thing a week before and then immediately jump back to something discontinued at the start of the year - this is BBC ONE.

BBC One and BBC Two pres at the moment is just a fragmented mess. I don't know who is behind the decision-making there at the moment but if they are involved in any major pres revamp of those channels, I'd say we should set our expectations very low.

I believe that BBC Creative has been responsible ever since Red Bee's contract to produce pres ran out. What they've put out is generally utter s***.

I just hope that with the rebrand next year, the BBC finds a design brand that treats the presentation decently.

Is a rebrand next year confirmed or is this speculation?

I think it's just speculation based on the new charter coming into effect next year. They're supposedly looking to launch BBC One HD regions too

Yeah, nowt but a rumour. The person who posted it on DS didn't even link to a source.

Having spoken with various sources, there certainly doesn't appear to be anything concrete at the moment. However, one would like to think that next year will see some sort of refresh of the two main BBC TV channels. Personally, I hope the BBC One circles theme is retained but refreshed, with a range of new idents. It's a good strong branding device with a lot of mileage left in it.

BBC Two would be silly to ditch its '2' logo - but a complete rethink of the on-screen execution is needed. Just PLEASE let's move away from these 1990s/early-2000s idents and get to something that better reflects the BBC Two of today. There's a massive pool of creative talent in this country - let's make use of it. What we have on screen at the moment is not value for money - it's just utterly pathetic.

If the Circles have to be kept then there really going to have to improve the selection which is kept and also actually come up with proper ideas, I did actully like the 2015 idents, why cant we have a few more of those? Have some spring ones or summer? I would get rid of bikes, Dog and deffo Football ( there can come up with better football ident than that) Cant there come up with Daytime ident like Bargin hunting etc? The stings I do like, i do know many dislike but its give the channel a bit ore playfulness.

Problem with BBC2 is there would just CGI the idents since tis cheaper but I would prefer actually modules.

Speculation, I think to be fair. Once the next charter starts it will be fairly obvious that BBC One will get a rebrand.

The 1990s idents reflected a BBC TWO that was witty and cultured, while appealing to a young and old audience. The current BBC TWO doesn't have this as the meat of its remit was put towards BBC THREE/FOUR, though it's been getting more youthful content ever since the THREE online move. If TWO even manages to get new branding, at least be consistent with promos and make the idents witty and sophisticated. The current BBC TWO branding is utterly full of inconsistency.

ONE definitely needs a refresh - the circles have been on screen long enough to prove how strong it is as a brand, but overhaul it completely, with a new style to it. Or, have a killer combination with the circles, but with an added touch of nostalgia with the globe.

The fragmented mess of ONE and TWO becomes even more of a field day when you consider that your main competitors have consistent presentation (ITV, C5 and Sky) and have a distinctive brand across your portfolio (C4, UKTV).

But the uk's massive pool of creative talent you talk about also came up with Channel 4's current identity, which I simply don't understand. I don't know how much Beaujolais they consumed at their focus groups before deciding on that nonsense but IMO if you want a triumph of creativity over content, that is it.

I personally don't agree BBC Two is a mess particularly. They've reintroduced the classic 2 idents because despite several rebrands the 2 itself is still their brand. (I'm not counting the older classics idents they use in the daytime obviously). I'm also not sure BBC One demands a relaunch just because it's been ten years, or there's a new charter, or whatever. It'll get one when the BBC wants one.

Yes but, at the same time, no. The '2' introduced in February 2007 is not the same as the one designed by Lambie-Nairn in the 90s. Although the differences may be superficial, they are still notable so I do think that using the two different logos in conjunction with each other and constantly flip-flopping between logos in themed idents does constitute a mess.

Yeah, they really need to change the trailer endboard.

I was just perusing BBC/Red Bee design agency favourites Vincent's website and stumbled upon what appears to be an unbroadcast presentation package, intended to be on air in January 2014:

Instead, we ungratefully received the Love 2013 things (another Vincent creation), appropriately re-edited to reflect the new year. What's curious is the agency's blog entry (link above) suggests they were unaware their concept was not going to make it to air; I wonder how last minute a decision it was not to run with it and if we missed out on anything particularly special/better than the "Love" twee nonsense?
JA

Because they were always popular - unlike the most recent new set from 2007. They originally lasted 10 years, not even getting replaced when the BBC logo changed in 1997, when every other BBC service got rebranded.

Plenty of schedule changes today, as programmes are pre-empted or moved to BBC Two for US election coverage. Though why did the continuity announcer at 12.30pm say that Bargain Hunt was a different episode than advertised "in some listings"? They'd swapped out a recent 45 minute episode for an old (old enough to have the old red and blue title sequence) 30 minute episode. No TV guides will have advertised the episode they ended up airing.
