I'm not sure it's the same thing, cylon6.

One appears to literally be footage of the show, nice as it is, with the logo on top. The other is footage filmed in the same style (a wide shot with plenty of sky) as many of the others, with the balloon slowly moving across in the distance, with the logo placed on the top as normal.

If we look at the concept of the BBC One identity, it is supposed to be a circle of some kind that appears after a few seconds of other shots of the scene, with the logo added using its swirl animation. The 'special' ident doesn't really follow many of those 'rules' and thus it sticks out a bit.

Absolutely agree Joe.

Interesting they've put this on Sundays versus a very vulnerable X Factor rather than in a weeknight 9pm slot - suspect it'll win the slot easily.

Good for the viewer I think too, with a contrast in genre.

Well I think whatever they put it on against they'd be a contrast in genre, but agree it is especially so with The X Factor.

Mind you they did the same with Walking With Dinosaurs and Walking With Beasts when they had the balloon

But they were specially designed idents that utilised the main element of the brand. Not clips from the show with no link whatsoever and no music. As Andrew said, it's just any old video with the logo (and trail animation) slapped on. Rubbish really.

They still took clips from the show then added the balloon.

The Walking with Dinosaurs ident may be, but the Walking with Beasts background clip in the ident was not used in the actual series - it is exclusive to the ident.

An ultimately bland and uninspired set of idents. It's an absolute joke when your presentation can't follow the basic theme of what it's built on.

It feels as if that the creative heads of BBC One are becoming desperate to squeeze out what's left of the current pres - with the continued use of Enjoy 2015 endboards and the falling 'o' motif.

So a one-off graphic for CIN sees the re-emergence of the red colouring from the original 2006 endboards? The levels of consistency within the BBC's pres/marketing group continue to astound.

Very weird, especially considering that they have only very recently gone out of their way to omit the swirl transition of the text on the menus.

Remove one thing a week before and then immediately jump back to something discontinued at the start of the year - this is BBC ONE.

BBC One and BBC Two pres at the moment is just a fragmented mess. I don't know who is behind the decision-making there at the moment but if they are involved in any major pres revamp of those channels, I'd say we should set our expectations very low.

I believe that BBC Creative has been responsible ever since Red Bee's contract to produce pres ran out. What they've put out is generally utter s***.

I just hope that with the rebrand next year, the BBC finds a design brand that treats the presentation decently.
