They aren't idents. They are clips of a show with a logo slapped on top. They could do that for any show of they wanted.

But they were specially designed idents that utilised the main element of the brand. Not clips from the show with no link whatsoever and no music. As Andrew said, it's just any old video with the logo (and trail animation) slapped on. Rubbish really.

I wonder if people are seeing these random clips and realising Planet Earth 2 is on? The continuity announcers aren't mentioning it.

I think the zooming-in 'o' is a rather nice device - would be good if they could refresh the standard trailer style to include this, the current red end board is somewhat dated now.

I see they've forgotten their theme is circles again with a Planet Earth II special ident/programme clip with logo slapped on, as the Flamingos one.
Remember the 'Africa' series idents. Flamingos then, too.

I haven't seen the red end-board in a while, all I have seen are the zoomed in O's. Perhaps NI is using this more than network for trailers?

They still took clips from the show then added the balloon. But I think they worked better as idents. Random film with logos slapped on them are the worst type of idents. I hate the main channel idents on ITV for the same reason.
The other irritating thing about the BBC1 idents is the move away from the circle. Just having 'BBC one' looks bland, much better inside a circle and the circle should stat around it in idents rather than disappear. We could all sort this mess out for them!
