Does anyone know what set was used, if any, for the Newsnight bit of the Catherine Tate's Nan special on 30th December? It didn't look like any BBC News studio I've actually seen, it wasn't Newsnight's normal Studio B, but if it was mocked up just for the show it was fairly convincing, with the proper style desk and coloured lightbox above and below the graphics.
Does anyone think that BBC1's current pres is somewhat disjointed? The endboards look as if they were meant to be idents but somehow look out of place alongside the regular idents. I so hope a rebrand is happening this year. It is long overdue.
Although the channels desperately need a rebrand, with the current Tory government, the BBC can't be seen to be spending money on updating logos/branding. We'll be lucky if the BBC is still around come 2020 the way the country is going.
The only way they'd get away with it is probably making something pre-1997 style, with one symbol and one ident, almost shouting about how cost-effective it is so they don't get b***ocked.

Cue the Daily Mail "Why is the BBC wasting money on the bits in between the programmes"

They've probably got variations of these articles on every BBC activity.

You say this a lot, but I don't think it's true. When something is updated, not everyone thinks solely of the cost. I think branding being up to date is perfectly acceptable and, short of the usual Daily Mail outrage, most people wouldn't care, including the *evil tories wooooooo*.

And have a robot continuity announcer like those YouTube "news" videos.

Most people won't care but the press have other ideas.
That being said, to rebrand now would give the government the perfect opportunity to say "The BBC clearly has far too much money if it can afford new idents after closing BBC Three, let's chop the licence fee." Now that would be disastrous.

Exactly. If the BBC really cared about spending money on idents they really wouldn't have commissioned a company to produce animated sprouts to air just for a month. No newspaper brought this up and I bet it cost as much as producing regular idents for permanent all year use. The Tories this, the Tories that is all we ever hear. Once Charter Renewal is ended it is unlikely the Tories will even mention the BBC for awhile. Besides, the last time the BBC had a refresh was in 2006 when Labour were in power and the hooha that revolved around that was ridiculous, as it was in 2002 when Labour were in power as it was in 1997 when Labour were in power. Three rebrands during Labour's tenure and not one since a Tory administration took power in 2010.
