As I understand it, it's a contractual issue. Regular programme trails - i.e. those that are just clips of programmes are made in SD because that's how they were made when Red Bee (now Ericsson) were contracted to make them. Other more elaborate promos are different, they are in HD.
Though I believe this will change soon when the new contract kicks in. Lots of things that Ericsson/Red Bee did are being insourced back in-house to the BBC
I find that trailers, end boards and graphics can be very hit and miss on the BBC. Some are obviously HD but many are still in SD and noticeably so. Shouldn't all the HD channels use only HD material and the SD channels be down scales of them?
