Peter Kay probably made it in HD knowing he'd be flogging it in numerous compilations in the years ahead.

I reckon Peter Kay is probably up there with the most repeats of his content on the 'main' TV channels over the years! (BBC1 - Channel Five)

And the most times his content has been repackaged for DVD

Normally when a comedian appears on the regional news, that's the last you hear of it, but Peter Kay's appearances on North West Tonight ended up packaged together with other clips in a DVD and were part of a 6 part prime time BBC1 series!

I still find the whole Pop Factor/Geraldine era of Peter Kay quite annoying and he dragged it out for far too long rather than actually writing new stand up.

That's what he does - one new thing every so often which gets flogged to death and repackaged with older material rather than constantly writing new stuff.

I'm not a fan, although the one episode of Car Share I saw was rather good and he was excellent (as an actor) in Cradle to Grave,so he's winning me round a bit

It's ironic because he insists on Phoenix Nights not being repeated because he doesn't want to de-value it, in the same way (his words, not mine) Only Fools and Horses has by being repeated so often on Gold.

Is that the reason or was it because he fell out with the other writers? Though I assume he's since made up with them as they brought it back for Comic Relief the other year

I thought it was more specifically Dave Spikey that he fell out with. As you say though, they finally made up after Peter Kay had the idea to do the live shows for Comic Relief.

As the Mirror article references, a lot of the writers and actors weren't happy about the show being listed as Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, which implied he was responsible for the whole thing. I know Peter and Daniel Kitson (who played Spencer) were very bitter towards each other, and still are. Not quite sure what the reasoning was, but Peter often referenced him in the DVD commentary of Phoenix Nights as "the b***tard", and there's interviews somewhere with Kitson expressing his gratuitous dislike towards him.

Just saw colour bars and tone on BBC1 during the Bargain Hunt credits. Seems to be opt-out related as it said Hull Queens Gardens on it.
EDIT: Found it on the iPlayer stream:

Why phone numbers on colour bars aren't always a great idea

Wasn't there a story of the BBC snooker coverage falling off air on one occasion in the distant past? Bars with CAR's phone number appeared for literally seconds until the network director cut away, they got dozens of calls from punters.
