The last minute of EastEnders tonight was replaced by a static image of the BBC One 90 second news update sting before formation. Only the final minute of EastEnders in audio could be heard, including the theme tune. Duncan Newmarch continued to make announcements as normal with no acknowledgement of the technical hitch.
Falling standards at the BBC when not even the continuity staff are paying the least bit of attention to the output.
I had it on Freeview - the SD channel. The fault was visible there. Also for some reason after the national update we had the audio of the London news but with the video of the weather update that plays out on HD...? It was stuck on the weather endboard for a short time then crashed into a trailer.
Indeed it seems that was the case having only occurred in London, but it seems odd that you'd get a red screen if you opted early, as that part is network.
You'd get an image of the regional presenter with their background behind them, wouldn't you.
London's opt comes from the same studio as the network bit. There's some clever Mosart stuff that splits the output and plays out the weather to network HD while the studio is doing the London opt live.
Slight technical issue at the start of EastEnders tonight, the BBC One ident didn't fade off immediately, it stayed half faded over the titles for a little while. It had faded off by the end of the titles though.
