Following the 6:30 regional news on BBC One this evening I turned over to BBC One HD expecting to see the party political broadcast (not that I particularly wanted to). However instead of seeing the PPB I saw a modified version of the "we are unable to show your regional news programme in HD" slide which said something on the lines of "In order to see tonight's party political broadcast please switch to BBC One SD".
Strange you should mention this as it was the wording of the slide that I thought was odd - "
If you would like to see
this evening's Party Political Broadcast..."
A minor playout error on BBC1 Wales earlier, very nicely recovered by the announcer ad-libbing on the spot:
It doesn't sound like an ad-lib to me at all. He put on that fake 'oh dear sorry about that' type tone that announcers do when they have to pretend to have a problem*. He'd presumably have previewed the clip and the name of it would have been in front of him on the schedule computer.
Why it would happen deliberately though I've no idea. Some sort of in-joke or back reference from the regional news?
Interesting. Would that have been played out from Studio D or can pres do something clever to do London opt outs themselves?
In the past BBC London have played them out. I'd have thought that's still the case - there's a proper London opt out permanately setup and all ready with a crewed gallery sitting there, why go to all the bother of doing it any other way?
Many years ago when the South East (as it then was) couldn't opt out but had a local programme slot that the rest of the country didn't get, then there was a setup where a spare pres suite was routed out to the SE and that played out the SE programme. Don't think it often happened though
If London want their own programme, trail or PEB now it's just a case of doing like any other region - get someone in to play it out.

Yes, based only as a viewer, on the fact that there's no continuity and the voice over isn't a regular BBC1 voice, I'm assuming this is just played out by London News as if it's just an item on the programme. I know the programme itself has ended but other than that I can't see why it would need any more effort. That'll especially be the case next week when only London are showing PPBs on a couple of days.
Anyway, the most interesting thing to come out of London News in recent days was Tomasz Schafernacker clearly calling Riz Lateef "Rizla". Think he forgot he wasn't in the office, there.

Yes and of course the programme is shorter when there's a PPB so it's not as if the gallery are having to stay later than usual either.
I've not seen them this time round but the announcements on such things - Inside Out being another example - are usually just someone from the office with a half decent voice (well sometimes!) who happened to be near an edit suite at the time the PPB was clipped up for broadcast.

Speaking of which, here's a voice that's not been on telly for a while:
I noticed on BBC One East Midlands the other day that the continuity into the News at 6 that name-checks the national presenter and one of the local one was done by one of the National CAs today - is there any particular reason that they get this special effort?
