What they really could have done with is Noel Edmonds in the Broom Cupboard introducing a Tom & Jerry cartoon...

That's exactly what I was thinking. Well, apart from Noel Edmonds.

The Voice live rounds are pretty painful to watch so to get them to pad the show out for a further 15 minutes would have been like torture. Then again, they could have got all of the judges pausing interminably before giving a response to the presenter' questions like Will.i.am does.

It seemed like BBC One was definitely padding things out a little in the junction between The Voice main show and the Lottery draws - quite a few trailers slotted in.

Different point but watching BBC One tonight brings me back to a point so often made - the presentation / idents really would benefit from a refresh now. Can't believe it's almost 10 years since Circles made their debut under Peter Fincham as channel controller.

Seems strange that The Voice couldn't pad it out. A few minutes of each contestant's previous performances before they sang live would have got them closer.

Surprised they couldn't get the lottery to extend with a couple of hours' notice. They must have plenty of good causes packages they could wheel out.

Wonder if itv showing the football influenced the choice to run early as people wouldn't be switching between the two?

Does BBC1 have a suitable filler programme these days? You can't show Coast on BBC1

Why not ?

It's probably a bit too niche for a BBC1 audience, let alone for a BBC1 Saturday night audience.

Sure fire way to lose all your viewers to ITV.

How much notice did they have that the two contestants had dropped out? Could they have found a filler for before (or after) Pointless and started The Voice late?

The news that two contestants had dropped out of The Voice was being reported on the BBC News Website about lunchtime. Therefore they had at least about 6-7 hours to find a 15 minute filler.

Extending the news would have been an easy way to do that, but there was a programme between Pointless and the Voice.

I wasn't suggesting Coast is a suitable replacement for all BBC 1 programmes, it's not (nor is it for all BBC 2 stuff either). However if Countryfile were to fall off the air for instance........

A 15 minute cut of a sketch show would work, maybe the recent Tracey Ullman show. I think BBC3 used to have short cuts of Little Britain as filler.

P.S. just watching Can't Touch This. Well nobody can accuse them of not padding that out.

Or go the whole hog and show a The Wright Way compilation.
