Wasn't last year's music based on 'To Love Somebody' by the Bee Gees?

My guess was based on previous years. What evidence do you have for it being on Friday instead of Saturday?

I think we have to trust George12345 on this one. Anyway it wouldn't be the first time a Friday launch has happened. The pres packages of 2000 and 2001 launched on a Friday, albeit not as early as December 4th.

Christmas is, for many, a different beast these days. Idents and presentation have become far removed from clunky mechanical "symbols" and are elaborate creations all by themselves. Most broadcasters start churning out Christmas pres from the beginning of December nowadays, simply because we have somehow inadvertently extended the season to the extreme that Christmas is now a month long festival rather than the last week of the year. I remember fondly the excitement and anticipation of watching out for the very first Christmas trail and the recollections I have of observing the unveiling of that year's BBC1 Christmas symbol, be it a clunky duo of Robins, three weird snowpeople with cracker, a stop start snowflake or the more obscure CHRISTMAS stylised ident with the 1 being a candle. Then witnessing the more creative idents of the nineties and deciding that 1997 and 1998 were two of my favourites! I think starting the idents early is a fitting and appropriate way of adapting to the modern world, and the BBC at least get value for money out of them nowadays too.

So you are saying Chritmas should be governed by 'big stores' adverts?

No. That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm simply highlighting how things have changed since the 80's and 90's. Christmas is different these days.

Here's an interesting link regarding 2015's Christmas BBC1 campaign. It provides information that an agency won the contract to create BBC1's 2015 on-line presence back in February! This suggests that a new BBC1 ident is indeed a very probable likelihood. Surely an on screen appearance would need to match the online look?

Interesting, thanks for sharing Wicko.

It's amazing how much planning goes into channel idents and branding these days. The year I was born (1977), all they had to do was stick a revolving Christmas pudding in front of a curved mirror. I bet that didn't take anywhere near as much planning and still looked lovely.

Watchdog tonight moves to 7:30, which forces Eastenders to move to 8:30.

Anyone know why the move? Why can't watchdog be at 8?

Also the did a little segment on the one show for Watchdog with a coming up bit.

I'd imagine it's more that EastEnders moved forcing Watchdog to 7.30pm as Emmerdale and Corrie are on ITV from 7-8.30pm.

Turns out we were both wrong. At least now we know George didn't know any more than I did.

Thank you very much. Very Happy The only sting I never caught was one in the rubber dingy. Mind you Im sure Scotland only used it once around 8.45pm between lotto and casualty on 4th July.

I don't believe there will be any new strings expect we might see the Scottish on again next Monday.

Just seen the Dr Who sting play out before Citizen Khan at 00:45 on BBC One Scotland! Very random.

I wonder if there will be a Saint Andrew's sting today - after all England, Wales and Ireland all have had theirs...?

I very much doubt that it is.
