I think not! If you're referring to the Christmas ident surely it would launch before Strictly on the Saturday!

That's more likely to be the first Christmas trailer.

I think this gives us an idea about the BBC1 Christmas Pres this year.

I guess it will be a case of guessing which way round Doctor Who, Strictly, Midwife, Eastenders & Mrs Brown Boys fit on Christmas Day once again this year.

Apart from the snow - and it always snows at Christmas here in the Anglia region, it looks very autumnal with the brown from the trees.

Most likely would be just before SCD as that gets the highest audience figure Smile

My guess was based on previous years. What evidence do you have for it being on Friday instead of Saturday?

BBC One Wales might be worth a look at 10.35 tonight, might be some retro continuity in store

That does look rather nice. And it confirms one thing at least- a new ident for BBC1 this Christmas. I really do hope BBC2 have something new this year. Their 2011 ident was fantastic but it really is time for a change now.

Indeed. It is extremely nice and kind of old fashioned. I would probably hazard a guess at the image being the endscreen and the promotional boards with the ident itself being based on the concept. I wonder if it will featutre carol singers as it is seemingly using a candle and lantern theme this year.

I think we have to trust George12345 on this one. Anyway it wouldn't be the first time a Friday launch has happened. The pres packages of 2000 and 2001 launched on a Friday, albeit not as early as December 4th.

Christmas is, for many, a different beast these days. Idents and presentation have become far removed from clunky mechanical "symbols" and are elaborate creations all by themselves. Most broadcasters start churning out Christmas pres from the beginning of December nowadays, simply because we have somehow inadvertently extended the season to the extreme that Christmas is now a month long festival rather than the last week of the year. I remember fondly the excitement and anticipation of watching out for the very first Christmas trail and the recollections I have of observing the unveiling of that year's BBC1 Christmas symbol, be it a clunky duo of Robins, three weird snowpeople with cracker, a stop start snowflake or the more obscure CHRISTMAS stylised ident with the 1 being a candle. Then witnessing the more creative idents of the nineties and deciding that 1997 and 1998 were two of my favourites! I think starting the idents early is a fitting and appropriate way of adapting to the modern world, and the BBC at least get value for money out of them nowadays too.

I agree with all of the above, Wicko. Also let's not forget that ITV1 (as it was then known in 2012) started their festive idents for that year on December 1st.
