The balloon idents should really make a comeback. Think how gloriously they could be shot in HD, and with drone technology you could even do 'celebrity versions' with people piloting the balloon and get right up close to them.

I think they could easily make a comeback, too. In my own experience, they were the only idents my family commented on (in terms of recognition of places around the UK) and they had a quiet gracefulness about them, but could also be simultaneously dramatic.
The balloon (or a new version of it) floating over a new set of British locations, with the tweaked BBC One logo and the same / similar music that accompanied the original set? Surely it's possible?

Nearly 30 mins of clean versions of the balloons....simply stunning and would be amazing seeing them on TV in HD!

I thought the balloon was great at the time but in hindsight, it was an odd concept. The balloon/landscape idea is great, but a globe on it? It's basically a transition towards getting rid of the globe - moving to something modern but with bit of the old as they couldn't bear to get rid of it.
It certainly made it easier to finally ditch the globe a few years later and I think quite rightly as it looks a little pompus these days
I don't think it would work if brought back unless it's a nostalgic special like the old BBC2 idents were originally.

A concept similar to the balloon could easily be created in my view. The BBC One logo they used as a sting for "The Big Blue Live" could be created in physical form and placed in random positions at or on UK landscapes or landmarks. Different styles for different genre, you could create loads and never tire of them. No need to change the logo, no need to change the trail presentation, no need to radically change the endboard apart from dispensing with the solid red background.

It could but it would cost money. Unless there would be a use for it, it's better off in an envelope.

Nah! The BBC will live to fight another decade, more or less unscathed. The public will hardly notice any difference. The Government are just exercising their authority in order to scare the beeb into less complacent and less self entitled. A lot of scaremongering is going on, but in my opinion, the public have nothing too much to worry about.
I suspect from next year it'll be in-vision continuity with John Whittingdale.
