Interesting - I knew that they had used the standard globe for closedown when they were using Christmas symbols on occasion but I hadn't seen that before.
I guess one issue with the anthem is what to do visually. It always used to be played over the globe symbol, in one form or another. I don't think a loop of the current idents would be appropriate.
TV Ark describes 1996 as the penultimate Christmas closedown - which would mean that the last one was at the start of the balloons era. How did they closedown after the 1997 relaunch? Did they use a balloons montage? And if so, did they do the same thing at Christmas, instead of using the 12 Days of Christmas idents?

They created a balloons montage for the brief period after the relaunch but before the launch of BBC News 24, when the anthem was dropped. You can tell it was slightly thrown together since the BBC One logo suddenly appears after a few seconds, although it does cut between shots in time to the music.

Why does that mean it was 'thrown together'? I always thought that was intentional, it worked.

It just seems a bit sloppy when the rest of the package wasn't. Maybe it was intentional, but it just looks a bit thrown together to me as the logo on the idents either fades in or appears with a cut in camera angle.
