BBC One 2015

BBC One Northern Ireland just aired the original version of the Dog Display ident in the 10.40pm junction.

And after 6 years of short idents doesn't it look...

Fabulous.

What ident was shown on Network?

The "Une" (EastEnders) sting, then shortened Magic Forest.

Northern Ireland still do occasionally use the full version of Helicopter and Penguins, but interestingly in the case of Dog Display Team it seems they've kept the original soundtrack, rather than the 2009 music.

The music was so much better on the majority of the original cuts too, Dog Display being one of my favourite tracks.

And that's the ~10sec form-up version - people seem to forget that shortened versions of the originals did exist and were used frequently (more often than the top heavy full idents).

A mix of these and the tighter 5sec versions introduced in 2009 would be a sensible move. Certainly more sensible than the cruddy longer versions they created where the logo blocks the action ages before the circle appears.

It's notable that the 2009 long-form edit of the Capes ident has the roundabout circle element appear after 10s whereas in the original edit it appears 5 seconds later.

I loved the dogs soundtrack originally it worked a lot better as did many of the soundtracks. Bikes was always a favourite of mine too.

What if you change the Love sting to Red background and have yellow flowers instead, could you have a spring sting instead?

BBC ONE Northern Ireland had a bit of a dodgy transition into The One Show just now. The long version of the Hippos ident was played out mostly clean before switching to a black screen mid-announcement. After around 2 seconds, the generic BBC ONE Northern Ireland swirl ident mentioned here appeared until the end of the announcement where it faded into the programme.
