Really hammers home how desperately BBC1's idents need refreshing too. What's so wrong with the original Circles edits?
Problem was that the original long idents could be a real handful for programmes that didn't need a massive introduction from the announcer, for example the news. Might have worked better though if they went down the Central route, i.e having a range of long, medium and short variations.

The original Helicopter ident had exactly that - a short edit (in addition to a long and medium-length edit), the short edit being entirely suitable for leading into the news (which it often was).
It will be 10 years of the current idents in September 2016!
You're a month out. They came into usage in October 2006.
But yep, it seems with each passing day that the Circles are going to be the first BBC1 ident package to last a whole decade. History's being made, and not necessarily in a good way
I don't really understand why over the last few years BBC One launch new presentation just for January. Seems a bit pointless. Why can't we just go from Christmas presentation back to normal ? Or if they want to go the extent of producing new pres do a proper refresh ?
Disappointing. The January idents were really good and could potentially work as a concept full-time.
Saying that, tinkering with a channel's identity is often a sign of a forthcoming refresh. Towards the end of the dancers, we had some godawful trailer endboards that weren't a million miles away from what came in with the circles. I say towards the end - they probably lasted longer than I remember.
Yep, I quite warmed to those idents in the end. It's definitely a concept that could run throughout the year with a few variations for seasons/special shows/events. A missed opportunity really.
That said, I don't have any burning desire to see the end of the current idents - bringing back the full length ones, along with the current and a shorter version would help though.
