They were part of 2000 today. I think there was a separate sting of a dandelion or something being blown from right to left with MM and various letters flickering away to form MILLENNIUM or sommat.
That Dome ident still had one of the fab remixes of the theme though!

I only learnt not that long ago that 2000 Today was actually a production of over 50 broadcasters and the BBC were the main broadcasters and co-ordinated the worldwide broadcast. In America ABC broadcast 2000 Today.

There was a sting of the head of a dead dandelion (a dandelion cock) with all the seeds coming together and then exploding apart as the years counted down in roman numerals. It was used for anything vaguely millennium related in 1999 and 2000:

Lots of us who were working on millennium night got a framed picture of the dandelion: http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/dandelion.jpg

dandelion clock
That'll be it, hence the millennium connection
It's all falling into place now 6 years after the event!

The Dandelion ident was designed by Martin Lambie-Nairn and was has been mentioned was used after the network symbol and before any programme with a milennium link. The pebbles were part of the title sequence for 2000 Today, the international programme produced by the BBC and shown around the world (though for rights reasons,
not
actually shown by BBC World!) Finally of course there was the Milennium Dome Baloon BBC 1 Symbol.

I've still got mine somewhere - it's quite a nice souvenir in a way! Also, staff working on the night itself had to have a special ID badge which also incorporated the dendelion. TV Centre was crawling with security on the night ISTR - and in the end nothing out of the ordinary happened except a few fax machines which got rather confused...
