If there was some way of incorporating the new BBC Northern Ireland logo into the idents, that would be good. I'd drop the BBC Two logo box completely.
This is exactly the type of thing that I was getting at. That doesn't look bad at all. There are a number of endboard colours on BBC Two though, so the green NI logo might not be appropriate in all cases. However, I'm sure the colouring could be altered.
Unfortunately I think the new NI logo is too loud to be incorporated into the existing idents effectively.
I'm sure the NI logo could be incorporated into the existing '2' idents in some way. The 'NI' logo, with 'BBC Northern Ireland' text underneath, positioned appropriately, would do the job. I'm not much of a graphic designer, but it would be interesting to see what this would look like. The 'NI' logo, with 'BBC Northern Ireland' underneath, either on the left-hand-side or right-hand-side of the screen (depending on the positioning of the '2'), and left or right aligned accordingly.
A few variations here: I've made the NI logo smaller and white, though I've kept the text the same size, and put it on a 'Chase' ident (just before where the teal box would appear), as well as on the trailer endboard.
(Perhaps these should go in the Mocks forum, but I'm not really creating something new of my own so I'll leave them here for now.)
Apologies for the delay in getting back on this - I don't have much access to the internet this week.
Yes, this is the type of thing I think BBC NI (and indeed Scotland and Wales) need to be looking at. I'm sure that with a bit of fine-tuning, some of the ideas being played with here could work well. They'd certainly be a big improvement on what we have at the minute.
Thanks for the feedback. I've been looking at a few NI local programmes on the iPlayer but previously didn't know that the new NI logo is usually displayed in white in the opening titles of local programmes (I'd foolishly presumed that they'd use the green version). It looks quite smart, though I'm surprised they haven't employed some sort of green animation to go with it to emphasise the brand.
I also hadn't seen 'Spotlight' before now - the titles are pretty impressive, and fit perfectly within the BBC News identity (whether they're meant to or not). They remind me of the new BBC Parliament style - and for a local current affairs programme, the music's surprisingly good!

Trails for local programmes are preceded by a short sting, which includes a very quick form-up of the 'NI' logo. It would be great to see the logo animation included on the BBC One and BBC Two idents and trails. As you've demonstrated, it would look well on BBC Two. BBC One might be a trickier proposition. I'd certainly like to see the removal of the existing 'Northern Ireland' text. We might just get away with having the 'NI' logo (and BBC Northern Ireland text) centred in the lower third?
It would be nice to have the 'NI' logo without the 'BBC Northern Ireland' text - but I don't think we're at the stage where people would link the logo with BBC NI.
An unusual little bit of scheduling on BBC Two Northern Ireland at the moment. Network have 'Cash in the Celebrity Attic' at 5.15pm followed by a Party Election Broadcast at 5.55pm. NI, however, have a full-length Sky High repeat at 5.15pm, Secret Gardens at 5.45pm and the PEB at 5.55pm.
Must have been a late change, because RT is listing Cash in the Attic for NI, and the Sky EPG is showing 'Cash in the Attic' in the same slot tomorrow in NI.
Just a little curious - I wonder why NI doesn't want to show Cash in the Attic today?
(for non-NI viewers, 'Sky High' was Christine Bleakley's first venture into TV, flying over the province in a helicopter talking to interesting people about ruins etc.)
It may be that their PEB is longer than networks. Therefore, they need to shuffle their programmes around to make sure they hit network after the peb, rather than timeshifting for a whole minute or so all evening.
That did seem to be the reason - the local PEB was a good minute longer than the LibDem one on network. That was my initial reckoning, but I thought that all PEBs had to be kept to a designated duration.
