I assume by "blank" you mean "snow" on the affected channels.
If this is the case... then I am assuming you are watching transmissions from Winter Hill. According to today's
transmitter maintenance schedule Winter Hill was off air on BBC1 and 2 between 11:40am and 13:59. It is also liable to interruption and reduced power up to 17:00 today.
Also in the NW, the Cornholme transmitter has been off air/on reduced power today.
I'm not sure whether it's the same at all transmitters, but I think the Digital services are run on backup generators, hence why analogue services only went off - it could also be that no work was scheduled on the DTT service in the area.

For want of somewhere better to put this, is anyone else having problems with that new BBC Transmitter Maintenance page reloading and shooting you back up to the top every so often?
