Rumour has it that BBC North (Leeds) will disappear soon to be replaced by other names ... I assume it may be connected to Hull launching. Also heard rumours about other regions changing names. All those new balloons and clocks for u!

I hope BBC North West doesn't change!!

What could BBC North change to?! Presumably the reason that there are currently 2 different Look Norths is that there's a bit of a shortage of compass points to choose from. Wink

Mind you, I suppose something like BBC Yorkshire would be possible (given that the ITV station is called Yorkshire) - but what about the other counties that fall into the region (Lincolnshire and the North Midlands!)? I'd have thought that 'BBC North' sums the region up pretty nicely!

Not techinally, BBC North East and Cumbria.

The problem with 'BBC North' is that it isn't North enough, 'BBC North East and Cumbria' is further North and has more rights over being called 'North'

But then, BBC North can't be called BBC North East because the North East is Newcastle...

Suspect BBC North West may remain - as it is a single transmitter (Winter Hill) region - so is unlikely to get any sub-opts. If it were renamed it would only have one name!

Suspect the BBC North rebrand is a result of the imminent sub-opting , and a desire to brand the Hull and Leeds sides differently, to hammer home the localness.

Wouldn't be surprised if something happened in BBC East as well... I hear rumours too... (Then again I wouldn't be surprised if nothing changed either!)

Could we also see action in the South? I wouldn't describe the Oxford opt out as 'South' but the programme (recorded Oxford headlines) is started with a South ident.

Some confirmed news for you....

When the sub-opt launches, (in about a months time), pilots start on Monday, there will be new balloon intros.

The Leeds and Sheffield areas will say `BBC ONE - Yorkshire`, the rest will say `BBC ONE - Yorkshire and Lincolnshire`

For the sub-opt area it will say ` Across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, BBC Look North with Claire Frisby, Christa Ackroyd and Harry Graition`

Coming soon!

Ahhhh, interesting, I thought something like this might happen.

So InTune, what is the schedule of the opt out? Will it be in the Look East style (Headlines for both East and West and a few main stories before opting out to Hull) or in the South Today style? (Recorded balloon, recorded East headlines and 7 mins of East news before handing back to the programme)

Obviously, the 2225 bulletin will be split.

Oxford is a bit of a problem when it comes to regions! It's in a sort of no-man's land between the South, the South-East and the Midlands - I never know which one to choose on those regional weather forecasts Wink

ITV seem to have it sorted with 'Central South' - unfortunately the BBC haven't quite managed it. The Oxford sub-opts are excellent - much more localised than Central News South - but the rest of South Today is completely irrelevant - Southampton is just too far away from Oxford.

I'd personally like to see some 'BBC Oxfordshire' branding - seeing as that's basically what the new region (from the Oxford transmitter) is! It technically includes Swindon, but most people in Swindon get HTV/BBC West, so there's not really much point.
