The BBC have not made any official announcement about BBC Manchester moving from the Oxford Road premises.
However the BBC Network production studios at Oxford Road have shut, and the BBC is now part of a joint venture with Granada called 3sixty media which jointly markets and funds the studios at Granada.
This is similar to what happened at BBC Pebble Mill - first the network studios shut, then the BBC decided to move out to smaller premises, in this case the Birmingham Mailbox development.
However, nothing has been said by the Beeb about Manchester.
BBC Manchester teamed up with Granada Manchester earlier this year to form a new company called Media 360. Quite how far this team-working was held close to the chest of those involved.
Sounds like the joint effort may be fully coming to fruition???

Pebble Mill was fated even before the studios closed - it's riddled with asbestos and major work is needed to fix it all. The BBC had to move out anyway.
Not sure the same is true about Manchester, I went there a few times recently and it seems in quite good shape and there's lots going on.... more network TV is made at Manchester than Brum, it's also home to the Philharmonic, the religous department etc.

Studio 1 was only refitted @ 1989/90? seems like a shame it sees little use.
afaik bbc birmingham is home to alot of radio though - asian network etc.

BBC Radio also operates out of Oxford Road, e.g. Mark and Lard... presumably if BBC Radio moves out of the 'Palace of Glittering Delights' the lads will shuffle across town with the rest...

A lot happens in media technology in 10 years, it won't be widescreen or digital for a start.
Besides, the number of studio based programmes from either Brum or Manchester is so few, even before the closures

Is was an employee at the time of the refurb, now working at BskyB with equipment that is a lot older than that in Manchester, it was a fine lighting rig as I remember.
