I fail to see what chocolate has to do with this. I don't know WHY they put Topics into Celebrations anyway since no-one likes them.

A quality post as usual ********.

Perhaps you could address my post on the first page of this thread where I pointed out that your first post contradicts itself.

Once we understand what you're getting at we might be able to get this back on topic.

Since the entire premise of the thread is "I've decided I don't like Manchester so let's think of all they things they don't do" I've decided to give it the kind of response it deserves.

Unlike when other urban amalgamations such as 'Cleveland County Council' were abolished and separated into unitary authorities, the constituent areas returned to their former ceremonial counties (ie Stockton to Durham, Middlesbrough to North Yorkshire).

Sorry, that's not true, they're all independent of any county status, Stockton is certainly not part of County Durham, ceremonially or not, nor is Middlesbrough part of North Yorkshire - they're simply unitary authorities, much the same as Tyne & Wear, only the Cleveland county was completely abolished and has now been replaced with a 'Tees Valley' brand.

I think this thread has lost all it's meaning now...

I definitely agree with regards to the meaning of the thread....

but on the other meaning - just as the 10 MBC create Greater Manchester there are other independent areas within Lancashire but no longer GOVERNED by LCC - such as City of Preston, Blackbuirn with Darwen, and Blackpool (these are possibly the major towns in Lancashire which now govern themselves)

I was living and working in Stockton-on-Tees at the time Cleveland County was abolished. As a responsible government employee, I ensured that all our letterhead addresses were changed to reflect the correct information. I was informed by the Cabinet Office that Stockton-on-Tees reverted to the ceremonial county of Durham for all areas north of the river. Those areas south of the river are ceremonially part of North Yorkshire.

This is unique for any unitary authority. See "ceremonial counties" in this article .

The Tees Valley 'brand' you speak of is in fact a government initiative. I refer you to this article for further information.

On the subject of productions and the use of the BBC Productions tag at the end of programmes... I've noticed Scotland aren't using BBC Productions Scotland as a tag. Are the nations free from using this?

Dosent Scotland make a lot of BBC programming, especially Childrens.

Yeh - but I meant at the end of their progs it still reads " BBC Scotland ", not " BBC Productions Scotland ".

So my badly worded last post was asking if they are exempt from the new end tag...? Smile

Stop!

What are you doing?

You're in danger of bringing this thread back on topic. Shame on you.

I'd just like to add the politcal make up of "Greater Manchester" is much like buying a box of eggs and then realising one of them is broken when you get home.
