I thing i've gone loopy, but to me the music used on the generic version of BBC World's title sounds a little bit different to the one used on BBC World, the difference is very small, but to me, there just seems to be a bit more impact towards the end on the generic titles!
Never even thought of that, but could that be the reason of sound differences. I've also noticed a different sounding of the countdown on News 24. Can someone please explain the difference
Maybe what you heard was BBC Worlds titles in stereo one time and in mono another time cause i notice a differencce near the end if i turn stereo off.
Well my setup is that I listen to BBC News 24 via a amp on thw eidescreen downstairs, so obviously I thought that's why.
But BBC News 24 have been doing BBC News Specials with the generic title on BBC World, and immediately the difference is there towards the end of the generic titles, and I am watching this on BBC World on the upstairs Nicam TV, which is on hi-fi satellite stereo all the time as the analogue receiver is connected with a scart, so I can't toggle between mono and stereo!
Two things. Firstly BBC World is only transmitted in mono, although output of the the news studio and TX are stereo.
The other thing, I'm not normally up so early on a day off, but I just watched the start of World news on N24. They started with World titles and then into a headline vamp and tag. Never noticed it before, must be quite new or maybe World are still rolling and showing it too.
i first noticed a difference in sound when i watched n24 overnight on bbc one analouge and when i got sky the sound was different and the countdown was not so spacious sounding i soon found out by playing with buttons that it was simply the digibox wasnt setup properly for the tv so soon corrected it.
So what's the point of creating all these wonderful idents, music and news presentation, only for the channel itself to be in mono:angry:
It's a distribution thing. BBC World is quite complex involving lots of satellites and goes through many different places round the world. There would be a lot of potential for errors to occur, so mono is much safer and robust. Also, on some of the feeds Japanese translation is carried on one leg.
Anyway, does it really matter? Surely it's the content that's important.
