News24 has been promoting Newsnight all day as starting at 8.30. The EPG says 8.10 and the programme started at 8.02.  Why can't they sort it out. If they are so inaccurate about when their own programmes start how can we trust their news reports. It must anoy the hell out of people who turn on at 8.30 expecting to see the whole of Newsnight.

(without access to News 24 at the moment hence my question...)

What the hell's Newsnight? Presumably some offshoot of the real Newsnight as surely the BBC wouldn't name two programmes the same?

They are showing the head to head debate that happened the other night on BBC TWO again on N24. They often do it with Breakfast with Frost etc.

I think it was originally only going to be a half hour show - edited 'highlights', but guess they decided to show the whole lot probably because it was such a high profiled show.

The EPG's are never kept up-to-date, for any station, unless something monumental like Queen Mum dies and the whole schedule ends up pants

But who would be watching. Anyone who saw their trails for the programme earlier in the day would have tuned in at 8.30, and be very pissed off thet they had missed half of it.

I think edited highlights like these (and if you remember back to the election campaign when News 24 showed the three Frost leaders interviews two/three times later in the day) would be ideal material for BBC Parliament, which at the moment is completely empty.

I would be nice to see things like Nick Robinson's 'One to One' interviews shown on there as well as on News 24.

Well let's hope all digital broadcasters sort the EPG updates out soon - Sky Plus (The integrated Sky Digital receiver with digital hard disc recorder) will only start and stop recording programmes from the EPG entry details.

The recorder will start when the on-air EPG details change on to the programme you have asked the box to record.

The BBC appear to be the best at updating their EPG info. When programmes are running late, the updated times for instance are added.

Newsnight & Liquid News also have their programme info updated on a daily basis (close to transmission)

Yep - Liquid News is available as a series link on the programme planner. It's great having your telly switch channels to the shows you want to watch - just in case you forget!

One of the documents on the BBC's R&D site says they can transmit the updated information from TVC to people's TV's within 10 minutes.

Also, frequently guest information and programme descriptions are added during the day (e.g. Westminster Live always has up to date programme info).

I think the BBC channels with presentation directors, and presentation schedules directly linked with the transmission automation systems will have the most accurate EPG data.

BBC News 24's schedule EPG is totally independent of the broadcast gallery, and is prepared in advance, based on the planned schedule.

If a programme broadcast is different to that scheduled, or a programme is dropped in favour of breaking news coverage , the EPG will only be updated to reflect this if someone from the newsroom or gallery has time to let the EPG unit know of the change (and the EPG unit is staffed).

Yeap. Mainstream BBC channels which are reactive (Net 1&2) feed their automation info (the old Presfax) to Ceefax, who in turn feed the EPG's.

As noggin says, it is not possible for N24, for technical reasons, to update EPG's or PDC, so you won't get any changes from when it was typed days ago

I still don't understand why they spend money creating a trailer telling us we must watch a programme later in the evening, and then put the wrong time on it. What's the point.
