They are going to have to do something different (I think) with the sport report on Friday, as the red board interferes with where the 6 sport sidebar would go. I would look a bit naff to have the sidebar wall cream on one side and a red strip on the other. Perhaps instead of the sidebar they are going to use the plasma screen instead?
The sidebars may be fine because there is a gap of the ivory between the red and the newscentre backdrop so the bit of the aston which is not opaque may still fit on the ivory section and the red would be obscured by the opaque bit of the sidebar.

Do I understand correctly that that 'stripe' added to the wall is a very wide plasma screen, onto which images of the main stories are displayed?
Or is it red material, and the images are added using something a bit like CSO with the longshot camera?
Yes, it does appear to be CSO, but I thought it would only work with a blue or green screen!
Anyway, I still think they should use the proper back projected screen, that red 'thing' added just looks stupid and pointless, whoever thought of it should be sacked.
CSO or keying can work on any colour you give it, even black, so it could be red but for such a small space, it's probably coming from Aston or Picturebox using DSK's and mattes/alpha's to overlay it perfectly without the edgings or fringes associated with CSO/Chromakeying.
I had an idea it was possible to overlay images onto colours other than blue or green, but I wasn't completely sure how it worked.
Anyway, now I know! I've learnt something today, at least.
To put it in layering terms, it's more the source being keyed is put on the destination, seeing through the green rather than the other way round, although it is quite fun to try organise 3 keys at once with a DVE.

All is forgiven!

Please no!!
I am sick of plasma screens at the moment especially on Reprting Scotland as they have now completely ruined a good set by having to stupid plama screens instead of sidebars all because they have changed to the two presenter format.
In my view the last thing we need is plasma screens on the six o'clock too.

Martin, try having instead of thin plasma screens, but GIANT projection TVs dong the same job...
I love plasma screens. Some channels here in Holland use also plasma screens (since the begin of the year) , and it's in my opinion much better than a sidebar.
Looking a little closer at the new image on the wall on the Ten O'Clock News during a studio based interview this evening...it would appear that this image is actually physically attached to the wall rather than being added electronically. A bit like the old Newsnight approach...
I noted last night's Ten O'Clock News had the plain red panel. Personally, I can't believe they went ahead with this...it looks awful.
