It is coming from the Breakfast Studio. Not sure what is happening tomorrow, but I know On the Record has been moved into a Main Block studio, presumably to allow News to stay in Breakfast Studio.
As for the usual Nationals studio, I do know there is a lot of banging and crashing going on.
Stay tuned

My guess is that its coming from somewhere near the Breakfast studio, as they are using the Breakfast chairs. Therefore they may be using the Breakfast gallery? Do they have different positions for the location bar?

The purple on the desk is probably the light being reflected from the blue cso screens behind the newscaster...

asa, where did you hear that?
Also, what does everyone think will change.
I change to say, if the studio was fake tonight, i will never mock the beeb's graphics designers again!

There's something fishy with the desk. None of Darren's papers were on the 'glass' in the desk. Is that becuase its not really there or something, or is this pure coincidence? Its just that they made a perfectly round shape fitting around the glass on the end shot. Also, if its in the Breakfast studio, how on earth has that desk been put there, is it all real or is it computer generated?

OK have a look here, closely. On the desk, what is the reflection? Look at an ordinary pic, and there's not much there, just black... also, the purple is not reflected in the desk... definitley computer generated i would say... infact i have a feeling the whole desk is...

It looked very realistic - but if you knew what you were looking for there were signs that it was CSOed. Well done for spotting!
It looked to me like a few careful still grabs were made of the normal shots from the national news studio without chairs and insets(sidebars) It would have been possible to paint out the desk from the wideshot I guess (if a shot were not available without it)
Then all you need is a/the desk, and a big blue or green studio!
The insets/sidebars and backing images can still be CSO-keyed behind the presenters (as long as they don't wear blue/green) If Blue was used as the keying colour it is quite common to back- light presenters with a bit of pink, to avoid the 'blue fringe' that often happens with CSO. Maybe that, and a bit of blue reflection, was spilling onto the top of the desk to make it slightly purple.
The clever thing is to position the desk, and the cameras, and the graphics such that it looks so real, and it did look very real. I can imagine most viewers not noticing any change - which is the point. The presentation should not get in the way of the content!
I suspect the SPORT inset at the end was because there was not a sport presenter backing available without the pillar.
I would imagine that you need quite a large studio to do this in - and strangely the Breakfast studio doesn't do much on a Saturday - does it...???
It does house Breakfast with Frost on a Sunday I think, though 'The War Report' which has replaced 'On The Record' recently was too big, and so housed in a different studio...
I wonder what Mr Schiller could have been hinting at? I suspect that tomorrow and Monday could be worth watching...
