It is the eastenders set, as almost all of Alistair's spoofs are from elstree.

Eastenders
News - using NSE Set
The are all filmed at Elstree
Think there is a degree of confusion here. There are TWO studio complexes at Elstree. There is the independent company 'Elstree Studios' - who host WWTABM, and I think Tweenies. There is also the BBC Elstree studios, which houses EastEnders, Grange Hill, Killroy (although this is an independent production it uses BBC facilities) and Holby City.
I believe Alistair McGowan may have used the Newsroom South East set for his first Huw sketch - which was also at BBC Elstree - prior to moving to BBC Marylebone High St (home of BBC London) - however later McGowan sketches seem far less realistic and look completely mocked up. It could be that this is made at Elstree Studios now - as it is an independent production (made by VERA I think - which is Rory Bremner's production company also)
hmmm, i picked the wrong weekend to go away!, after spending ages reading this whole topic, as i havent seen the new national news studio on tv yet, though i caught a bit of breakfast with frost (which i was amazed at how pre 1997 it looks!, old font used on credits, music sounds like the old breakfast news etc), but the news on frost is done infront of a cso with an orange background)
my first thought was bbc STOP messing around with things that are fine! bbc 2,now this, whilst other shows (eg midlands today) need to be fixed. seems greg dyke cant leave things alone for longer than 2 years. maybe this points to a more definate itv news revamp in january?
studio - not the end of the world from what ive seen (might grow on me after a while) - but please dont say any of it is virtual, eg the weather/interview screen at the side
and another thing, it took them a weeked to do it, during that time couldnt they have used news24 simulcasts?, make life easier?
Been away abroad for the weekend ... I take it from this long thread you've noticed a few changes then!
I've yet to see them for real ... only heard about them beforehand so had better watch the bulletins later today!
The News Centre looks great. BBC News 24 must be getting a revamp soon, everything else is for God's sake! It would be a very smart idea for them to broadcast from the News Centre somehow - but I don't know anything about the logistics of that.
News 24 does broadcast from the News Centre (unlike the national news)! The window is afterall just a projection screen!
I love the whole revamp, including the sidebar which looks ok IMO.
The newscentre really looks impressive now they've changed it all and the flags, (to the unknoing) look like a bit of decoration, perhaps fom the world service.
I think that if N24 does get tarted up they should broadcast from somewhere in the news centre as in actually in the action, not just in a studio in the building.
Plu the top marks go to what happened on Saturday, that mock up of the old studio was amazing and very well done (even if we all noticed it)

Wasn't the ITV News set introduced when the 'Hearts' theme came out in the regions in 1999?
If it was, it's definately time for a change. The music is wearing thin now. The ITV Evening News is too slow moving. It's also so predictable in the structure of the show.
Though, I never watch BBC News- (too many needless 'beeps' against computer graphics all the time).
I haven't got any exams today, so I'll get the one o'clock news images up!

Although I am greatly impressed with the way the BBC went about revamping the studio (ie CSOing it VERY realistically), I am not all-impressed with the new studio. They've made it look a lot like a 7 year old's space rocket bedroom, and the whole thing looks claustrophobic and too close with the red walls. The original design seemed much more open and clean - this new one seems very cluttered with bits appearing where they needn't. The sidebar would have looked much better if it didn't have the cross-bars in it because if it was simply down-pipes it may look better.
But critisism is easy, construction is hard. Well done BBC, it is an improvement because the old studio, although cleaner and smoother, was very dull. Nice job!
Also well done everyone in here: it was very well documented!

It was launched 8 months before the ITV hearts.

I was just playing an Alistair McGowan tape back I got last Christmas!! I felt like a bit of a laugh!
He's a genius isn't he!
Friday night, after Johnathon Ross on BBC1. I believe they are repeats!
I've just seen the new National studio changes (I rarely ever watch the news over the weekend) so here are my late thoughts:
I like the new sidebar. The metal frame effect does something the 'sqaure-up' the overall picture. I always had a problem with the semi-transparent sidebar as you could see that the wall behind was on a curve. Straight lines over curving ones are unpleasant on the eye. This seems to sort that out.
I like the new weather-screen. I presume this is back projected because plasma screens dont come that size (techy peep?). I like all the new dichroic lamps, like little jewels all the way aound it.
The only thing that doesn't seem right is the long-shot of the studio at the top and tail of the bulletin. Because the new side-bars are 100% opaque they look like they are part of the set. When they cut to that end shot they suddenly 'disappear'! It makes the studio look a little empty. Does anyone else notice that?
