Well I wonder what it could be? Perhaps a new desk!!

Whats puzzling me is why is the presenter sat on a Breakfast chair?

If anyone's having trouble spotting the difference, you can see by comparing these pictures (ignoring the red bar, of course):

And you can see even more of a difference here:

Maybe they remembered to drag the desk over but not the chair!! I can't see it being a new desk - they could get that sorted pretty quickly IMO. No, I think they've got the Changing Rooms team in for a full on makeover! Smile If that's the case, it would be nice to see it reflected in new titles but I can't see it happening...

Maybe they are completly re-doing the studio, small section for daytime bullitin, big screen for main story picture, maybe more red in it.

God help them if they've got Changing Rooms to do it, everything they do is a bloody disaster.

As someone has pointed out, creating a virtual studio isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world, and so it must be something reasonably large for them to go to that extent.

I'm not convinced that they'll be massive changes, there's been nothing announced remember, so don't get your hopes up for a dramatically different look. Perhaps new lighting, a change of desk and a general reshuffle of the studio? Just a facelift job, because it has been like that since 1999.

I think its very clever that the Beeb have managed to re-create the studio virtually!

I only hope now the old studio is getting a well needed face-lift!

perhaps they are installing a moving camera which sweeps along the studio floor at the end of the programme, showing credits (like ITV News)?

Just a thought!

It's a pretty good reproduction isn't it!

I wonder what they are doing in the studio at the moment - will be interesting to see!

I think personally that it looks like a pretend studio, you now CSO isn't it. It looks way better.

Reproductions on whole studio's aren't easy, but the principle is.

Different camera shot's will have an image ready to replace the CSO screen. So when the presenter looks straight on you can get one image, then when they turn to the side - you get a different image. That give's the impression of a 'full' studio.

Central News West have a good example of this for short bulletins, depending on the camera shot - the image changes.

Although this DOES require more work than a single camera CSO reproduction, which can be seen on BBC WORLD during short summaries at the weekends when News 24 have joined or they are carrying out work on the studio.

So, they have gone to a lot more trouble - so I would of thought they are going for something big. Well I can live in hope.

Is it just me or does the studio look like it's on an angle? Looks like everything is going to slide forward.

Ison, do you mean there is just a specific shot for each camera angle, and that's it's not a full studio? I'm sure that for election night Sky had a full virtual studio, so cameras could move all about and they'd still get the same picture. Suppose for national news studio there's no need for this.

I've booked my train tickets BTW.

Sorry if anyone's already mentioned it, but notice how the newsroom behind the presenter is actually a still image. The transition animation between pictures (when they do an out-of-vision news round-up) is also slightly different.

You have to hand it to them - the differences are really difficult to find.

Tom, the principles used for Sky News' election set is different.

What is being used on the National BBC News at the moment is just a still/video - that changes depending on what camera shot is used.

Sky News however had the whole studio made, in 3D form and when the camera moved, the 3D studio 'moved' with the camera. Of course it would be impossible for the CSO BBC National News studio to do this as their CSO images are real images - recorded from BBC National News studio when it is empty.

That's why virtual studio's made from scratch don't always look that realistic but are a lot more versatile.

I hope that all makes sense.
