I was surprised to see that the BBC News at One is adopting the same style as the BBC News at Ten on Sunday's.

George Alagiah said hello to Helen Willets on his big screen and she presented a weather summary within the programme.

They are really trying to intergrate the programmes between national and regional.

Yes - I just turned it over as Helen was presenting the weather and thought it odd that we had a national weather forecast in widescreen for once (as opposed to usual, when they're only in widescreen when they're done 'within' a programme) - does anyone know why they do this? - when BBC Weather relaunched last October they went widescreen, but since then it went back to plain old 4:3 after a short time. Why wasn't Helen actually presenting the weather from the news studio itself, like they do during the 6?! Maybe it was only a temporary measure!

Could be, I wonder if the do it during the 10?

Its good anyhow! I wish English regions did what the nations did. Straight after the 6 titles, the regional news programme then goes straight into the headlines without a trailers or a balloon.

The 10 isn't that bad because the presenter introduces the regional news. The 1 used to be the worst but now its got the weather summary within it, it flows better.

Also George said 'Well done, Helen.' Could George be more patronizing than Huw with his 'Thanks for That'? Wink

i think we get a trailer after the 1pm and 6pm news on BBC 1 cause the UK Today team have to jump into the gallery which produces the national news. ( i think Nicky said this somewhere)

This doesn't stop the Regions opting out early though, if they really wanted to, especially for extended Paul & Peter Look North banter at 1.30!

Weatherview on BBC One after the late movie was occasionally in 14:9 before the new-look in 2000, but I think this was a mistake

I can't think why the weather has gone back to 4:3 on analogue, unless it's simply to please the lovers of 4:3 who complain about widescreen broadcast (such as my family who moan cos half the screen's missing!

IMO I think it looked better in 14:9 - at least then you can see a bit of the continent too!!

people were complaining that the symbols on the map were too small, so they try to please the most part by making analogue weather 4:3

BBC World weather was also in 14:9 for a while and then it went 4:3! Shame, then again BBC World have widescreen idents to show, but don't show it, since no ones gets the widescreen signal off them!

Yeah it has always puzzled me why they broadcast in 14:9! I'm not saying its a bad thing but the BBC seem to have made their news 4:3 friendly so that graphics don't dissapear or the presenter for that matter! Smile

I'm surprised no digital networks actually get it in 16:9!
