BBC News looks set for big trouble after news 24 gets slammed for offering its services free of charge over the internet as this is licence funded channel. People anywhere can see news 24 over the net. This is unfair to the british public. DO YOU AGREE ? ? ? ?

Well no it isn't unfair, but where can you see N24 on the net?

N24 IS AVAILABLE AT THE BBC NEWS WEBSITE.

Yeah but only in snippets, that I assume are courtesy of BBC World, to get round legal trouble such as that?

Yes, The first half hour of every hour is avaliable every hour on news.bbc.co.uk

Why on earth are people bothered about this. Broadcasters should be moving into this area.

Do we stop tourists wathching BBC1 because they are only here for a week? - Of course not. The world is getting smaller (were only a few hours away from anywhere anyway) So why stop the development of these great new services?

Besides - it wont really cost the Beeb much more as the programme is already made anyway as is their website & I would also say not that many people watch it - its hardly high quality broadband. (I have asked the beeb why they don't broadcast in broadband, they replied they don't have the money. They are making the best of what they have got.

Also it is just a different way of providing the news - you can read they same stuuf & more online anyway

I cant see a problem with it. At least we can view it over the internet and if others from other countries do aswell fine let them in my opinion.

'I have been talking to a group of News24 lovers today.
Their arguements against Sky was that 'Who care if you get breakingnews 30 mins later, as long as you get the facts'

That was one of the arguments, which you obviously believed was flawed and therefore wrote it. Didn't happen to mention the others mentioned across the past few pages then? And regarding 'News24' lovers, I think most people would agree that the channel has flaws, in the same way other news channels do.

Funnily enough, I've been watching a bit more of SKY News recently ( 'what, where is the real Asa?!?' ) and saw the full clip of a trailer previously mentioned where there's a reporter banging on continually about 'June 7th' for the election, obviously from various reports he did and then the actual announcement from the PM about the delay, ending with 'We told you so' and 'SKY News First' captions. Erm...definitely want to shove it down the throats of their viewers that WE ARE RIGHT!

Cheers,
Asa

You only need to look at all the awards that N24 has won to see it is the best.

You are right, it is unfair, after all we pay £100+ pounds, therefore no Johnny foreigner should pick it up at all for free!

As long as they maintain the same standard of quality does it matter whether others can view it for free? afterall in this forum the longest thread is dedicated to picking up BBC World ( channel we are not supposed to see ) in the UK for free so even we like to get things we shouldnt.

Yeah but BBC World is commercial, so it dosen't matter, but News 24 comes out of our pocket, so therefore it is only right that it is viewable in the UK only
