Is Kate Sanderson a journalist??

Yes, she is.

I bow to the master for enlightenment, but keep getting the same words. You're not suggesting that Natasha goes out and researches all the stories she tells us about, are you? What differentiates her from being a journalist and being eye candy?

Natasha does have a lot to say about what is to be included in the programme, I believe. When Breakfast finishes, the team have a meeting and there, they discuss what stories they can include in future editions. And yes, South Today, Kate is recognised as a journalist.

Ok, she has management input, but that's not the same as doing the legwork (the journalistic legwork) to compile the facts of the stories. If someone else is doing the actual work, then she is 'just' a newsreader. Don't misunderstand me, I have nothing at all against her, she is everything I would expect from a morning presenter. I am simply trying to understand the logic in the argument that she is somehow superior to Moira.

Yes, on Breakfast, Natasha is the main presenter, but Moira is also the presenter of her bulletins. I do know what you mean. Moira would be able to do what Natasha does, but it's Moira's job to present her bulletins and its Natasha's job to present the show.

Natasha has a piece of paper somewhere with a degree on it, for English, etc. At BBC News, and most other news outlets, a journalist is considered much more desireable to present, rather than just a presenter.

Natasha, like most other presenters, has some form of qualification or training in journalism. To argue that Natasha isn't a journalist because she doesn't do the 'leg work' is ludicrous. That's like saying that a librarian who becomes the head of a library is no longer a librarian, because they don't do the leg work anymore! If you make it to the top, why should you do the leg work?

A bit OT perhaps, but yesterdays Look East did an OB from a London studio which looked uncanilly like the main BBC News studio 1993-1999. Does anyone know what thats about? Did they just have a small studio somewhere they forgot to redecorate or what?

Ok, I never meant to suggest that Natasha was not a professional, of course she is. I was just making a point in response to those who were getting a bit uppity about the idea of Moira daring to sit on the couch. The separation of 'journalist' and 'presenter' doesn't enter the thoughts of the viewers. I personally don't really care who sits on the couch as they are all much the same anyway. I do think, however, that in the minds of the ordinary viewers experience will always count for more than a piece of paper regardless of what those in the rarified corridors of power think.

Thanks to both of you.
