I've noticed that all the weather forecasts tonight have been recorded - they've been playing the same Michael Fish one again and again. Has this always been the way (and I've just never noticed) or is there a 'deep and meaningful' reason for this?

On News 24 apart from when a shift changes over, or the weather changes - the forecaster usually seems to record 2/3 different forescasts and these are played out in different orders to make it seem more "live".

In My Opinion News 24 should have live weather from 0927 - 1257 - Overnights are allowed to be recorded Wink

Thanks - obviously works, because I've never noticed before!

They are almost always pre-recorded (you can tell when Michael Fish cracks the same lame joke at the start of every weather bulletin in one night).

LOL indeed. He will often tell us "My garden needed a drop of rain" or "I was out trimming the hedge" at least 10 times in one evening on News 24 Wink

Now that the weather forecasts on News 24 are pre-recorded, are they still done from N8's CSO position, or from the weather centre? If they no longer use N8, what have they done with the CSO position? If you haven't seen it, there's a picture on the Continuity Booth website. (Having said that, all of the above should be in the past tense, as it's probably been dismantled by now!!)

I thought when the second set was revamped it the cso went then. If you remember the trailer with Jane Hill where you see her puting her jacket on as she prepares to go on air you can see its not longer there.

N8's weather CSO was dismantled when they had the fake gallery inserted behind the news presenters earlier this year (or was it last year?). Still like you say its all gone now, technically N8 doesnt currently exist.

It will be 14 days tomorrow (Monday) if all goes to plan, hopefully. Does anyone from News 24 know if this is still the case, please?

Also, where has the best presenter, Jane Hill gone? Will she be returning when the new set is launched?

Does anyone know whether the BBC have plans to release a Sky News downloadable news alert devise? I know the BBC has the ticker of the latest headlines but I like how Sky's is invisible and wooshes onto your screen with any breaking news.

I could maybe throw one together taking advantage of their XML feed.

If you could that would be excellent.

Well, I have all my code sorted out, so tomorrow I'll dress it up so it looks like some BBC News astons and we can party and so on.
This'll also give me a chance for my first software mock since the price-drop sim...
Anyone for skinabble astons?! Razz

Err - I think the weather centre kit was dismantled - but the CSO screen remained. It was used for the large scale reporter+gfx CSO sequences during the Iraq conflict I believe? Certainly there was no physical need to remove it - the second set didn't get any bigger when it was tweaked, and the small 14" TVs replaced by plasmas.

I think the date of the relaunch has slipped into December.
