Big Brother, RTS and Lee Stanley do have a tendacy to post about totally irrelevant random nuggets of information - such as a font alteration or a slight technical glitch, which does bring the overall quality of posts down. The strangest fact of all is that IIRC two of them were meant to have left Rolling Eyes .

i agree with that reiterate, perhaps this is what's making the forum more enjoyable every week to read...

i would like news 24 to be more on the edge - not newsreaders stripping or stuff like that - but more fox style in the way of approaching news - enough of auntie.

having seen the promo for john simpson's documentary in panorama - this is how the bbc should take their journalism to.

and of course your plead for people not to distribute the password for ITV Regional news (which is Itv News btw) was nothing short of miserable was it? http://www.tvforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6981

I couldn't agree more... why does the BBC have to keep this auntie image up? I said sometime ago that the BBC still lives in this antiquated world somewhere in Radio 4/Home service land, for christs sake its the 21st century! MOVE ON WILL YER!!! Why can't BBCNEWS be FNC in style, so what if the media establishment have a go at them for what would be called dumbing down, what would they be dumbing down? Their journalistic professionalism would be untouched, they do still have the best field journalists out there, they just need to sass up the presentation and I don't think taking a leaf out of the FNC 'style of presentation' would be a bad thing. Just to sum up...

FIRST>>>>True, tested BBCNEWS journalism at its best, unrivalled, untouched, unsullied, accurate, unbiased, professional, quality all the way.

SECOND>>>>FNC presentation style, sassed up, in yer face, swoosh, LIVE, comin at ya, colourful, etc, etc, etc... you know what I mean don't you?

I agree - Fox News presentation style, nothing else from "The Most Biased Name in News", as long as it doesn't go to OTT, would be a good thing I think. It would make the channel look more versatile and dynamic.

Some people say that using Fox News style soundeffects between wipes, transitions, stings etc. and fast moving energetic graphics are associated with dumbing down, but I don't think so. If it is applied properly, it is useful as it attracts viewers attention.

Just look at Fox News and CNN when there is breaking news. On Fox News they use an animation to break out of a segment instead of the presenter just interrupting it, with a dramtic sounding bell type soundeffect. Very effective, attracts viewer attention as designed. Likewise with CNN, they use (on both the US and International networks) a very dramatic piece of music, along with a deep voiced announcement "This is CNN Breaking News" that they have used ever since CNN launched in the 1980's. When news breaks, people know it when they hear it.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again - people want to talk about different things. Some people are more interested in talking about the overall style of a news channels pres - some people are interested in slight changes. Some people are interested in both. The sooner people realise that there is room for everyone on this forum, and that everyone doesn't have to find all topics or posts interesting, the happier this place will be...

You got it spot on my friend...N24 needs to take this 'style' of news presentation on board. I have been a keen 'watcher' of news presentation since the mid 80's when every now and then you would see a news report from CBS or NBC used by BBC. I used to look at the way they did it and compare it to how the beeb did it and it was so good. I remember that phase through the 80's and into the 90's when US networks and CNN used to have, what I called then 'chunky' graphics, that it on screen graphics that had depth/perspective... looked really good.

N24 is in desparate need of viewers, SKY NEWS beats them everytime in ratings. The BBC over reliance on the fact that they are the BBC is going to be their undoing eventually, they need to attract a hold viewers attention. I'm not saying that TV News viewers are a shallow bunch, but they like what they see, and at the moment N24 does not give them anything to 'see'. That 'CNN Breaking News' sting has been there for years now, the same music... it has an impact. N24 does breaking news in such a clumsy amaturish ham fisted way... Breaking News strap across the bottom of the screen and more than likely someone like Maxine Mawhinney 'erring' her way through.

I don't think News 24 are 'desperate' for viewers, they may be beaten by Sky News but they still do well.

What they really lack at the momont is credibility and what this relaunch seems to be about is making the channel more watchable and more up-to-date.

As for the Auntie image, I can see that that can hold it back but look at Five Live compared with Radio Four, there is a difference and each appeals to a different group of people. What News 24 needs to do is do its own thing and stand out from the crowd, in the same way as both Five Live and R4 do.

I suspect though that whatever they do people will complain both on here and in the political scene etc.

I really hope this new look will be worth the wait.
