NickyS...can you tell us if the news News 24 set will have a real-life BBC newsroom as its background...not some chromakeyed fakery?
I think this might be what all the delay is about.
(In case you've never heard my opinion: Chromakey = Bad, Real newsroom = Good)
And are these intended changes going to happen to the One, Six and Ten bulletins at the same time, or are they going to test all this out on News 24 and take whatever works back for a BBC1 News revamp in 2004 when Popescu returns to that job?
Perhaps the newsroom will be revamped in the style of the CGI background in the national studio? It would make sense, then they can start using a real view instead of the computer generated one.
It's blatently obvious that the new look News 24 studio will be in exactly the same place as the current one. They are vacating that space so they can rebuild it.
From memory of my visit there, there is no possible way they can construct it so that the News Centre (real view) will be in the background. The News 24 production area is very small in comparison to the space occupied by the News Centre, in fact if memery serves me right, just 3 or 4 small rows of desks, perched up on a balcony overlooking the main NC - hardly a lively looking backdrop for a busy 24 hour news channel.

It will be real, the news 24 desks are being rearranged to form part of the set backdrop - similar as they are now. So no fakery there...

There are more than a 'few desks perched on a balcony'. News 24 has its own newsgathering, dedicated journalist team and the output team have an area all to themselves as well, housing Strand Editor, Editor, Asst Ed, SBJ's, Picture Producers and the guys looking after headlines - but these are off to the right of the current set - adjacent to the gallery.
Well just one month to go until we see the temporary set, hopefully in time for a nice new-look News 24 from Monday 27th October, on the basis that the refurb will take two weeks. As I understand though, there is debate as to whether new music and titles will coincide with this relaunch, but they are definately on their way.
Hopefully if News 24 are vacating the studio for major works they will finally fit studio style air conditioning instead of the office type they currently use and keeps breaking down!!
