"the company I work for" implies that the titles etc have gone out of house... is this true?

Well, unless the company I work for is doing it for fun....

and the company you work for is...?

only it's fairly common knowledge if you read Design Week, or The Guardian or Broadcast - which of course you would if you did work for any reputable design company - that the titles are being produced in house by a team from BBC News graphics...

so... let's get this straight... you're doing the titles, but you haven't heard the music. doesn't that make it a bit difficult to animate to the beat?

Em Isn't it more correct that the titles are made first then the music is created to fit them. Fittng something in time with music is quite difficult and I'm sure I've been taught this on the Graphic Design course I'm on.

Titles can be done either way. Quite often the titles are designed - but loosely - and then when the music is delivered they can be tightened up in editing to fit the music better... Depends on the style of titles and the style of music...

My point remains, titles are done first, music 2nd. Wink

okay, I concede this point, but my original remark remains, it is pretty difficult to produce a title sequence without EVER hearing the music, or having an idea what it is going to sound like...

The new titles are based upon a style being used in a current News24 promotion.

Of course taking all this with a pinch of salt, but if they were going to based on a current N24 promotion, and were to remain rhubarb & custard, I think the trail for BBC World News is fantastic.

It's the one with a map of the world with clocks over locations reports are being sent from and the word 'transmittion' or something over the locations. Anyone know the one I'm on about - any captures?

that one was used as a promo for the iraq war i think.

Got it in one, Moz.

The titles are 12 seconds long (plus the holding image after), and could be best described as a mix between that trailer and the movement of the world in the BBC news on s4c.

If this is all true - 12 seconds is a long time in BBC News terms for opening titles - most of the current ones are 7secs with hold, with the main exception being the National News which is 6secs + hold.

The titles "build up" from local UK regions to show the rest of the world.

Apparently, this is reflected by the music, although Ive never heard it. What weve been told to do is to build anticipation for the news.

Aww, it'd be nice if it could be like the old BBC Newyddion on S4C~, before the insipid ones that are there now [even though they are one of the nicest of the LN set]. It had lovely music and headline bed too. Or if it could be like the new RTÉ News music, that's lovely too.

..Or will it be more pips, squeaks and thuds -- oh it's just all so BLAND.

I do hope that the News 24 rebrand has more of a local feel to it, at the moment all the recognizable images in the countdown are just from London - it'd be really nice to see more images and landmarks from around the UK somehow.
