What is your opinion on the presenters MrTom? Should we have a change...

Seeing as though I can't get News 24 here, I can't exactly comment.

Well obviously, but being part of this forum, a moderator even, I was sure you'd know a lot about the channel Wink

The CSO set is very convincing. Much better since they've sorted the lighting out.

Ive been watching (well glancing) at BBC News 24 most of the weekend and noticed how poor the 'studio' was.

They are currently using a cso (chromakey) studio where none of the cameras move and the background is obviously recorded because when the camera shakes a little bit the background doesnt move only the presenters and the table. Also the table has glass on the top and must be reflecting the chromakey colour (usually green or blue) and so you can actually 'see through' the table and see the background that isnt/shouldnt be there!

Ps the tape that the background must have been recorded onto is a very poor quality tape as the picture kept breaking up and showing other errors!

It's been iffy all the time but has been able to look convincing some days.

Today the tape seems very worn though and just looks dreadful - they've had a grey glow around them for a few days now.

The loops for the fake CSO backdrop may not be coming from tape, they could be stored on News 24's profile servers.

Nothing at the BBC comes on tape/film anymore. It's all digital. So technically, the BBC no longer 'film' anything, but 'record' it.

Yes, but given the temporary nature of News 24 currently, and the fact that alot of what is usually automated is being done manually at the moment, it maybe that the CSO loops are sourced from tapes.

I did suggest that the CSO loops may be stored digitally, that is why I said they may be stored on News 24's profile servers.

I may of course be wrong but I certainly am surprised if the loop is on tape, and not stored either on the network or other hardware digitally.

The effect on the CSO today does look like a worn tape - I was just describing how it looks.

Indeed -- it looks like that to me as well. However, if it is being sourced from News 24's profile servers, it could be a problem with the profile server, or the CSO system that causing the tape worn effect.

The backings come from DVD actually. The effect you are describing is the patterning and keying that tends to have problems occasionally, and need to be manually adjusted throughout the day.

What does 'CSO' actually stand for, anyway? Confused

Colour Separation Overlay. Look it up in google for a full explanation.
