I think it's a great idea RTS, anything that tells viewers it's a BBC channel is great, Adrian Finegan actually does a similar thing with BBC World News, I thing he says "Welcome back to BBC World News, live from Television Centre in London", or something like that! Smile

Adrian always does it with certain grace, and although I do watch Sky News from time to time, Adrian doesn't gabble on about the 'BBC News Centre'. I think BBC News should continue with their modest view of themselves.

I think it would work if the presenters said This is News 24, I think it does sounds right, that of couse would not work with BBC World, i've often heard Stephen Cole say "You are watching World"!

Am I dreaming or did anyone else here something earlier this year that BBC World may be re-named 'World Service Television'? It used to be called this wasn't it?

It was called World Service Television until 1995/6(I think), when they changed it to it's current format.

Lol, yeah - "Time to remind you of our top stories here on World...".

Adrian says something like "You're watching BBC World News, In London, I'm Adrian Finighan. The headlines..." Something to that effect.

That is exactly what Adrian Finegan says:), he has a few variations, very good presenter, I think the second best after Nik Gowing, I think it's only Adrian and Zeinab that say BBC World News, I think Nik says it, but I haven't watched a Nik Gowing bulletin in six months!

Look out on Oct 13th.

This is when News 24 will temporarly move out of their set so it can be rebuilt.

They are moving to a spare studio in Television Centre, but the set will go up with them . Overnights will come from the BBC World newsroom.

They will move to their new set, in the normal place, a couple of weeks later.

Very interesting indeed. Does the writing above in bold mean the enitre current News 24 set is moving to another studio while the usual plot is re-done?

So it looks like we'll see the new News 24 in late October, early November. My predictions, but only guided by the above quote, is Monday 29th October .

News 24 with a new look eh... thought it would never happen. Wonder if Sky News or News 24 get their changes done first.

I'm sorry - they could broadcast from a hot air balloon for all I care, it's the CULTURE at BBC News that's at fault, a flashy studio and new graphics won't change that.

Unless they make serious changes to the presenters, the channel cannot move forward. It's the presenters that make a 24 hour news channel, as Sky (and tragically Fox) have proved.

And the bullsh-t about them not defining themselves by Sky... christ, it's a clear attempt to directly take on Sky. Their "walking about" concept sounds like a Sky News Today rip off (shock horror - although not sure how that'll compare to Sky's revamped look coming very soon) and I remain highly sceptical about the BBC's talent and commitment to rolling news.

Even the format sounds wrong - walking around and analysing. Walking around to be snappy and lively, yes; walking around to analyse, no.

That said... at least they are trying to do something.

It won't work, and i'll bet that there will be only a very marginal pick up in viewers (mostly from new audiences, rather than taking Sky's), but I'd be absolutely amazed if they could do anything significant enough to get this "victory" they so desperately crave.

I know it would be a boring world if we were all the same, but I can never believe how opposite c@t's views are to my own! Not different, opposite! If you changed all the Skys in his posts for N24s and vice-versa, you'd probably get something I'd write!!

To me the culture at the BBC is just fine - being doing it for 80 years and still the most respected. You can say all you like about N24 copying Sky, but the BBC were doing news a long time before Sky!

As for presenters being the most important - if Sky have realised this, how come they've not sacked all theirs (apart from the great JT)??? They're bland, dire, superficial....I just can't stand them.

The News 24 presenters range mostly from great to OK.
