I can't wait till November!! Laughing

Well newsmonkey spoke to Jon Sopel today, who mentioned a launch in early December. So either the dates been put back already or Jon was wrong. But to be fair he has a job of reporting/presenting to do, so dates of a relaunch aren't too important yet!

I thought this too, but since he's one of the main anchors of News 24 he will have been given a rehearsal schedule already and should know the exact on air date (he said the first week of December). We'll just have to wait and see Smile

That is a huge conclusion to jump to.

Almost everything in a modern broadcast gallery runs software - from the vision mixers, to the lighting desks, from the graphics kit to the comms gear. Quite a lof of this gear - especially the graphics stuff and the comms stuff - is developed in house by the BBC.

I suspect that if the normal News 24 gallery is out of action then it would be a great opportunity to upgrade software in kit that takes a while to test, and also a good chance to change bits of kit, that may thus run different software....

Wouldn't jump to the conclusion that software means virtual or CSO... It could just mean a different DVE, camera remote control system, comms system, or graphics playout device.

Well let's be fair! I doubt there's anything wrong with most of the hardware in the gallery, graphics devices included - they're just being used exceedingly poorly at the moment!

Lovely uncomfortable moment there on News 24 when Kate Bevan the paper reviewer is introduced she makes a comment about how nice it was to be in the "groovy new studio!", Tim doesn't really know what to say so mumbles something she laughs and he says "yes, um temporary studio"...

But I thought it was a real studio, I mean how could anyone tell, talk about shatter the illusion!

Wow! That guy walks past a lot doesn't he!

Well it must be very unusual for everyone to actually be in a studio for a change...

Just imagine if Bill & Sian were let loose with the virtual studio for Breakfast - they'd be criticising everything, and pointing out all the limitations of the system to the viewers.

I've got visions of Bill wearing a bright green tie on purpose, just to play games with the viewers.

He'd be OK with green. If he wore blue, he'd disappear, that's why you won't see any presenters or guests wearing blue over the next few weeks.

Aha - we finally have firm confirmation!

Jon Sopel was giving a talk to the Debating society at my Uni today (he used to go to Southampton) and this is what I asked him :

Me: "Jon, News 24 is having a big revamp at the moment; what change, if any, will we see in terms of presentation and agenda?"

Jon: "Well in terms of agenda we'll be focussing on having more analysis and in-depth, something the BBC does best, and something our rivals don't have a lot of. Presentation wise, yes there'll be a lot of changes - a fantastic new set, lots of whizzes and bangs along with new music and graphics as you'd expect. trust me, it will be very good when it goes live at the beginning of december."

Straight from the horses mouth! BTW - he's presenting Breakfast tomorrow morning (not that that's what he's best at.....)

Ahem, which is what I said in my earlier posts I believe.

And no, I'm not bothered about you lot calling me a liar, I was trying to help, but you must appreciate the position I'm in. I have answered direct questions with direct answers. I'd hope you'd appreciate my honesty.

OK then,

have you seen any plans or drawings of the new set? Im not asking for details or anything.

Will schedules, programmes, presenting or style change or is it just a visual change? And will it all be at the same time or annoyingly gradual?

Its difficult to believe people on forums esp when they say something thats almost too good to be true - is there anyway u can convince us that yr saying the truth? Rolling Eyes
